  1. Reasoning From the Resurrection

  2. The key to understanding God’s will is the cross of Christ. • God expects men to struggle with reason and come to know Jesus is the Son of God. (Mt 16:13-17)

  3. The key to understanding God’s will is the cross of Christ. Matthew 16:13-17- When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?" 14 So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"

  4. The key to understanding God’s will is the cross of Christ. 16 Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17 Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

  5. The key to understanding God’s will is the cross of Christ. Jesus could have used miracles in a way no one would doubt who He is. Over and over He allowed men to struggle and dig deep to find Him. God’s plan is to change hearts and that is a painful process that comes through struggle and reason. (Acts 2:36-37)

  6. The key to understanding God’s will is the cross of Christ. Acts 2:36-37 - "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"

  7. The key to understanding God’s will is the cross of Christ. Can you give a reason for the hope that is within you? (1 Pt 3:15)

  8. The key to understanding God’s will is the cross of Christ. 1 Peter 3:15 - But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;

  9. The key to understanding God’s will is the cross of Christ. Those who are really seeking God will respond to this evidence.Each of us need a solid assurance of the identity of Jesus. (Jn 8:31-32)

  10. The key to understanding God’s will is the cross of Christ. John 8:31-32- Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

  11. The powerful evidence of the resurrection God chose men who would be eyewitnesses. (Acts 1:21-22; 10:39-42)

  12. The powerful evidence of the resurrection Acts 1:21-22- "Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22 "beginning from the baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection."

  13. The powerful evidence of the resurrection Acts 10:39-42- "And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. 40 "Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, 41 "not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.

  14. The powerful evidence of the resurrection 42 "And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.

  15. The powerful evidence of the resurrection There is great power in eyewitness testimony. Is the person giving testimony in a position to know the facts? (1 Jn 1:1-3)

  16. The powerful evidence of the resurrection 1 John 1:1-3 - That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life -- 2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us -- …

  17. The powerful evidence of the resurrection Does he have an ulterior motive in telling his account? (1 Cor 15:30-32)

  18. The powerful evidence of the resurrection 1 Corinthians 15:30-32 - And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour? 31 I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. 32 If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me? If the dead do not rise, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!"

  19. The powerful evidence of the resurrection Is this person of good character? Is he reliable? Are there other witnesses and do they agree? (1 Cor 15:6)

  25. The powerful evidence of the resurrection The details of crucifixion are recorded. (Psa 22:14-18)

  26. The powerful evidence of the resurrection Psalm 22:14-18- I am poured out like water, And all My bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It has melted within Me. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought Me to the dust of death. 16 For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet;

  27. The powerful evidence of the resurrection 17 I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. 18 They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.

  28. The powerful evidence of the resurrection How can these things be written over a 1000 years before the event and even before crucifixion was even invented? There is great power in miracles that accompanied the witnesses. (Acts 2:32-33; 4:33)

  29. The powerful evidence of the resurrection Acts 2:32-33 - "This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33 "Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.

  35. We learn powerful truths about the life to come Luke 24:39-43- "Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have." 40 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. 41 But while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled, He said to them, "Have you any food here?" 42 So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb. 43 And He took it and ate in their presence….

  36. We learn powerful truths about the life to come Jesus physically ascended on a cloud. (Acts 1:9-11)

We learn powerful truths about the life to come Acts 1:9-11- Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,

  38. We learn powerful truths about the life to come 11 who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."

  39. We learn powerful truths about the life to come An angel of God tells us how this example will be repeated! John also tells us about how this future event will affect people that are now dead! (Rev 1:7; Jn 19:32-37)

  40. We learn powerful truths about the life to come Revelation 1:7- Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.

  43. We learn powerful truths about the life to come Acts 17:30-31- "Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 "because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."

  44. We learn powerful truths about the life to come Consider how Paul develops this reasoning with Christians. (2 Cor 4:13-14; 1 Cor 6:14; Phil 3:20-21, 1 Jn 3:2)

  48. We learn powerful truths about the life to come 1 John 3:2- Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
