Too many product variation between malaria RDTs • Variation are seen in: • Components (e.g. shape of cassette, number of wells, specimen transfer devices, lancets) • Procedure (e.g. specimen volume, numbers of buffer drops, reading time). • Labeling and terminology for the RDT box and device • Cassette packaging • Buffer vials • Accessories • Instructions For Use • Performance issues and user error • Need for additional training • Non-competitive public tenders leading to higher costs

Approach for Harmonization of Malaria RDTs • Desk review • Workshop in Dec 2013 • Establishing of the HarT • Initial focus on low cost, high relevance, easy to implement interventions • Develop list of final recommendations and report back to PSMWG meeting (June 2014) • Organize 2nd consultation with key stakeholders to discuss final recommendations and implementation timeline (Q3-Q4 2014)

Joint RBM and Global Fund LMIS workshop (2)Ouagadougou, 6-8 May 2014 • 164 participants from 27 African countries, Haiti and 30 facilitators/partners (AEDES, ACAME, Bioforce, Empower School of Health, GIP Esther, Greenmash, I+ solution, JSI, MSH/SIAPS, PFSCM, Solthis, Stop TB partnership, TESS development, The Global Fund, UNAIDS, UNFPA, UNICEF, WHO/GMP, WHO/HIV, WHO/EMP, WHO/IST) • Successful cross-cutting workshop • Peer review of country self-assessment of LMIS for each country • Enhancement of Action Plan for strengthening national LMIS by peer to peer discussion and technical discussion with support of partners • Market place to showcase country and partner LMIS tools as well as solutions for resolving LMIS bottlenecks

Joint RBM and Global Fund LMIS workshop (3) Ouagadougou, 6-8 May 2014 Final Deliverable: Completed LMIS Action Plan from each participating country Next steps: • Share LMIS action plan with national stakeholders for validation Purpose of the Action Plan: • Use in the request for funding from respective governments as well as all development partners and donors, including for the preparation of the Global Fund Concept Note

PSM WG collaboration with Harmonization Working Group (HWG) for NFM related country workshops • PSM WG contribution to the “Malaria Implementation Guidance in support of the preparation of Concept Notes for Global Fund Grants” • Participation to Country Preparation for the Global Fund NFM Workshop coordinated by HWG, Nairobi, 2-4 December 2013 • 29 countries, 170 participants • Participation in NFM orientation workshops and Mock TRP Workshops organized by HWG to review Global Fund Concept Notes: Dakar: 7 – 11 April 2014, 17 Francophone countries Harare: 14 – 17 April 2014, 14 Anglophone countries Kampala: 16 – 21 June 2014

PSM Working Group meetingGeneva, 10 – 11 June 2014 • Main objectives • Reviewing 2014 PSMWG activities, progress and next steps • Reviewing 2015 PSMWG activities, timeline and budget • Main topics that will be discussed : • Follow up of the LMIS workshop in Ouagadougou + preparation of the LMIS workshop for Asian countries in 2015 • Follow up of the country support to the development and review of country NFM concept notes • Identify ways for resolving quality control issues with vector control products • PSM challenges related to medicines used in severe malaria (ASinj) and Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (AQ+SP) • Recommendations and next steps for RDT harmonisation • PSMWG call for actions against SSFFC health products and theft/diversion • PSMWG Consensus statement on PSM planning and financing at country level

Artemisinin conferenceGuangzhou, 23-24 September 2014 on "Aligning Artemisinin and ACT supplies" • Main objectives • Obtain a reliable estimate from ACT manufacturers of the total quantity of ACTs they expect to sell and the volume of artemisinin that they have already contracted with extractors. • Obtain a reliable estimate from artemisinin producers on the total quantity of artemisinin they expect to be available for 2014 and 2015. • Assess whether the ACT to be produced and the existing stocks will be sufficient to cover the forecasted demand in 2014 and 2015. • Participants:growers, collectors of leaves, extractors, API/ACT manufacturers, donors and organizations from China, Vietnam, East Africa, Madagascar, India and Europe.
