History of Agriculture • 1862 – Morrill Act - Provided Public Lands for Colleges benefiting Agriculture and the Mechanical Arts • 1871 – The State of Arkansas created the Arkansas Industrial University – Now UAF • 1887 – Hatch Act – Authorized Agricultural Experiment Stations • 1914 – Smith Lever Act – Authorized the Cooperative Extension Service • 1959 – UA System created the Division of Agriculture • 1962 – McIntire-Stennis Act – Authorized the School of Forest Resources(housed at UA-Monticello) • 1977 – AES Grants Office created to handle USDA grants

Processing Sponsored Research • Three Offices • Research and Sponsored Programs • Office Size: Director, Assistant Director, 6 Grant Specialists, Administrative Assistant • Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) Grants Office • Office Size: 2 Specialists • Cooperative Extension Service (CES) Grants Office • Office Size: Director, 2 Pre-Award Specialists, 2 Post-Award Specialists

Processing Sponsored Research • AES • All USDA grants • Commodity Boards • Research Foundations (AGRI related) • Industry for AES faculty • RSSP • All federal sponsors • NSF, NIH, DoD, DoE, etc. • All State sponsors • ADHE, ADHS, ADE, etc. • Industry for campus Faculty • Foundations that are sponsored projects • Undergraduate and Graduate Fellowships (i.e. SURF and NSF)

AES Grants Office • 0403’s, 0133’s, 0103’s, 0313’s, etc. • CRIS project accounting (What is CRIS?) • How many proposals submitted in FY12? • 340 Proposals • How much funding received in FY 12? • $25,000,000 (1/3 USDA awards, 1/3 Commodity Boards, 1/6 Other Federal, 1/6 Industry) Some awards may include campus faculty • 600-650 active grants at any given time • In Target Chain Approval • All BASIS transactions go through AES • All award project set ups (establish CCNs) are processed by AES for Research Accounting verification/approval

Research & Sponsored Programs • 0402’s, 0412’s, 0132’s, 0152’s • Processed 683 proposals in FY12 • Received $47,523,240 in funded projects for FY12 • 453 total additional awards from FY12 • RSSP prepares documents for Research Accounting to establish CCNs and process transactions • Kathy is the approver for RSSP of all CCN transactions • i.e. new award, no-cost time extensions, any changes to the CCN

  7. Federal Reporting • NSF expenditures combines RSSP and AES • Annual FY awards include both RSSP and AES projects • National rankings and goals to be top 50 Public Research University • The purpose for showing these combined awards is to reflect the total awards from the University.
