Women in Mathematics Committee – current activities • Running the annual Mary Cartwright Lecture (recent lecturers: Caroline Series, Cathleen Synge Morawetz, Frances Kirwan, Jennifer Chayes, Mary Rees, Elizabeth Thompson, Ulrike Tillmann ) • Running the annual Women in Mathematics Day • Collecting statistics on women in mathematics in HE • Investigating issues pertaining to the entry, progression and retention of women in the mathematical community • Offering grants to offset childcare costs when attending conferences, etc. • Grace Chisholm Young Fellowships to provide support when a mathematical career is interrupted by family responsibilities, relocation of partner, etc

  5. Women in Mathematics Day, 27 April 2007 The Women in Mathematics Day has now become an annual event organised by the LMS WiM Committee. The event is primarily aimed at female postgraduate students and is an opportunity for them to see women who are successful in mathematics and to meet them informally. Speakers confirmed for the 2007 event are: • Professor Caroline Series (Warwick) – Continued Fractions and Hyperbolic Geometry • Professor Nancy Nichols (Reading) –The Weather Modelling Problem • Dr Sarah Waters (Nottingham) – Mathematics in Medicine and Biology The afternoon will comprise presentations and posters by postgraduate and postdoctoral students.
