Leadership Education in Pediatric Nutrition Program, University of New Mexico Mission Improve nutritional status and health of children and women and their families by: 1) Preparing highly trained, culturally competent professionals who are equipped to become leaders in pediatric nutrition practice; 2) Changing behaviors and systems in ways that will increase opportunities and positive nutritional outcomes for children, adolescents and women; 3) Proving technical assistance and continuing education to nutrition practitioners in the southwest region Core Values and Guiding Principles 1) cultural competence and 2) excellence in education community, interdisciplinary and family-centered health care • Pediatric Research Partnerships • Center for Child Health Research • (American Academy of Pediatrics) • UNM SE Heights Clinic for Family • Health (Vietnamese/Hispanic clientele) • Academic Programs • Dietetic Internship • Track I – Generalist • Track II – internship integrated with MS degree, • pediatric emphasis (NM Nutrition LEEP) • MS Degree Program • Professional Relationships • American Dietetic Association • Maternal Child Health Collaborative • American Association on Mental Retardation • AUCD • Training Programs • See Academic Programs • Minority International Research • Training (in Western Africa) Clinical Programs Clinical portion of program includes supervised practice completed by trainees throughout the 2 yr combined MS/DI program. Accomplished in CADE approved sites throughout New Mexico including: UNM Health Sciences Center—Department of Pediatrics UNM Health Sciences Center University Hospital UNM Children’s Hospital and Santa Fe Indian Hospital Gallup Indian Medical Center and Pueblo of Isleta San Juan Regional Medical Center, Farmington, NM (Navajo Nation) • Public Health Networks Statewide: • Maternal Child Health Collaborative • New Mexico Nutrition Partnerships • (advocacy for NM children) MCH Funded Program Initiatives UNM Leadership Education (LEND, PPC)
