  1. Be Angry, andDo Not Sin “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27nor give place to the devil. (Ephesians 4:26-27)

  2. Anger is Not Sinful • Rather, a man is susceptible to many temptations when angry • “anger of the Lord” (32, KJV) • “wrath of the Lord” (13, KJV) • Jesus Manifested Anger • (Mark 3:1-5)

  3. Mark 3:1-5 And He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand. 2So they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. 3And He said to the man who had the withered hand, “Step forward.” 4Then He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent. 5And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other.

  4. Anger is Not Sinful • Rather, a man is susceptible to many temptations when angry • “anger of the Lord” (32, KJV) • “wrath of the Lord” (13, KJV) • Jesus Manifested Anger • (Mark 3:1-5) • Legitimate anger may be expressed by confronting the sinner with his sin

  5. Sinful Expressions of Anger While anger itself isnot sinful, how it is expressed may be sinful. The Lord warns aboutthe sinful expressions of anger when he says,“Be angry, and do not sin.”

  6. Sinful Expressions of Anger The Danger of… • Being Quick Tempered Proverbs 14:17, 29; 15:18

  7. Proverbs 14:17, 29 [17], A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, And a man of wicked intentions is hated. [29], He who is slow to wrath has great understanding, But he who is impulsive exalts folly. Those who are quick tempered do foolish things such as taking out their anger on someone other than the one at whom it should be aimed.

  8. Proverbs 15:18 A wrathful man stirs up strife, But he who is slow to anger allays contention.

  9. Sinful Expressions of Anger The Danger of… • Being Quick Tempered Proverbs 14:17, 29; 15:18 • Uncontrolled Anger Proverbs 16:32; 25:28James 1:19-20

  10. Proverbs 16:32; 25:28 [16:32], He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. [25:28], Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls. Former Texas Tech basketball coach Bobby Knight would be an example of a man who does not control his anger. His antics caused himto lose his job at Indiana University.

  11. James 1:19-20 So then,my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

  12. Sinful Expressions of Anger The Danger of… • Being Quick Tempered Proverbs 14:17, 29; 15:18 • Uncontrolled Anger Proverbs 16:32; 25:28James 1:19-20 • Vengeful Anger Ephesians 4:26-27Romans 12:18-21

  13. Ephesians 4:26-27 “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil.

  14. Romans 12:18-21 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord. 20 Therefore ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.’ 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

  15. Conclusion One of the indications that a man is growing spiritually is how well he handles his anger. May God help each of us to control our anger!
