  6. Behavioral Expectations • Cell Phone/texting – AP issue Trabuco Hills HS • B.Y.O.D. District Policy: I Pads, Laptops, smart phones – teacher expectations • Phone policy-loss of use if caught inappropriate use of it • Water is ok, no other food or drinks

  7. Aeries.net Grading System • Online grades and attendance • Parent notification is immediate • I post immediately all grades and attendance

  8. Academic Expectations • 904 API – record for district • Social Science AP scores = 92% avg • Late work = ½ credit if done fully and accurately – After 5 days late work will NOT BE ACCEPTED • 3 days absence = 3 days to make-up work • NO EXTRA CREDIT OR BAILOUT AT ANY TIME

  9. Grading Scale • 89.50% - 100% = A • 79.50% - 89.49% = B • 69.50% - 79.49% = C • 59.50% - 69.49% = D • 59.49% & BELOW = F

  10. Test Drops • Perfect Attendanceand No Unexcused Tardy’s = 1 test drop at semester. School functions exempt! Must have both to qualify for the drop. • All test drops are canceled if you’re ever caught cheating on homework or testing

  11. Perfect Attendance or NO Tardiness • 25 points extra credit if you have one or the other during the semester

  12. S.S.R. • Every Thursday for 15-20 minutes will be silent, sustained reading for the class for the book reviews.

  13. Book Reviews • Your choice 1st quarter (Unbroken, Lone Survivor, Where Men Win Glory.) In Harms Way – Doug Stanton • Greatest Generation – Tom Brokaw • All But My Life – Gerda Weissman Klein • 1 book review Quarters 1-3 = 150 points each

  14. Semester Lecture Notebook • 150 points • Title page for the semester, Course Outline,Unit divider page, Lecture notes. • Key is well organized and neat

  15. Homework • Won’t happen nightly but in project form at the beginning of new units of study

  16. 9 major units covered • Unit #1: Why Study History / Geography • Unit #2: Rise of Democracy • Unit #3: Age of Revolutions (Glorious, French and American Revolutions) • Unit #4: Industrial Revolution and Imperialism • Unit #5: World War 1 (End of Semester) • Turn in complete notebook: 150 points

  17. Second Semester Notebook • Unit #6: Rise of Dictators / Russian and Chinese Revolutions • Unit#7: World War 2 • Unit#8: Cold War • Unit #9: Modern World History and Global issues of the day • Second Semester Final Notebook due the day of the final exam (150 points)

  18. Academic Honesty • Cheating results in an automatic zero in points • Loss of any test drop • Contact with counselor for a cheating contract to be written • Contact home to voice my concerns

  19. Final Exams • 1st semester final is all objective questions-no essays • 2nd semester final is 4 full essays in 2 hours • 16 topics, 4 randomly chosen, and the use of a 3x5 card using 1 side only (1 month of prep for the test)

  20. TESTING • Unit Exams • Video Quizzes • Art projects and assorted other activities throughout the year

  21. MAKE-UP TESTING • Essay Format • Always a different test, and usually more difficult
