  1. A cell whose genetic material is contained in a nucleus Prokaryote • A cell whose genetic material is not in a nucleus Eukaryote

  2. Nucleus • Control center of the cell • Where proteins are put together Ribosomes

  3. Endoplasmic Reticulum • Smooth ER produces lipids • Rough ER produces proteins • Where proteins are sorted and packaged to be sent out of the cell Golgi Apparatus

  4. Lysosome • Cleans up the waste in a cell • Breaks down old organelles and wastes using digestive enzymes Mitochondria • Food is turned into energy • Powerhouse of the cell

  5. Vacuoles • Membrane bound organelle that stores water and other materials • Provide support and protection for the cell • Made of cellulose Cell Wall

  6. Chloroplast Cell Membrane • Regulates what goes into and out of a cell • Made of a phospholipid bilayer Captures light energy from the sun and converts it to chemical energy

  7. Nuclear Membrane • The portion of the cell outside of the nucleus and inside of the cell membrane • The membrane that surrounds the nucleus • Pores in this membrane allow mRNA to leave the nucleus Cytoplasm

  8. Nucleolus • Small dense region in nucleus where ribosome subunits are made • Cilia – tiny hairs used to move the cell around • A whip-like tail used to move the cell Flagella & Cilia
