  1. Absent Students Here is the tentative schedule for the week. If you are absent, you are responsible for making up the work. Your essay will be due no later than Monday, October 14. • Monday: outline • Tuesday/Wednesday: first draft • Wednesday/Thursday: peer edit • Friday: final draft

  2. IWBAT demonstrate my understanding of essay writing. PROMPT: Who is your favorite author and what is your favorite book they have written?  Write an essay explaining why you like that specific book. Starter: based on the prompt above, write a thesis statement on the notecard you were given.

  3. A few things I noticed…

  4. Format • I gave you a format for a reason. Follow it! A complete disregard to essay structure and format will result in a score we both dislike.  • APA format: According to Palladino and Wade (2010), “a flexible mind is a healthy mind” (p. 147). In 2010, Palladino and Wade noted that “a flexible mind is a healthy mind” (p. 147). In fact, “a flexible mind is a healthy mind” (Palladino & Wade, 2010, p. 147). “A flexible mind is a healthy mind,” according to Palladino and Wade’s (2010, p. 147) longitudinal study. Palladino and Wade’s (2010) results indicate that “a flexible mind is a healthy mind” (p. 147).

  5. Tone • Informal versus Formal • Strong word choice and elaboration • Don’t begin your introduction with a question…

  6. Assignment • Step 1: brainstorm with a friend • Step 2: create your outline. This WILL be graded. You MAY listen to music while you are working. However, I will take your device from you if you are misusing it or becoming a distraction.

  7. Library • We will be in the library computer lab on Tues/Wednesday and Wednesday/Thursday. Meet me there! 
