  1. Jim Thorpe Fundamental PTA Newsletter April 2012 Meet the Masters Last month, we learned about M.C. Escher, a Dutch artist, who was well-known for his tessellations and imaginative, geometric compositions. The students put his techniques into practice by creating their own tessellations. You can see some of their masterpieces in the MPR. The final artist that we will study this year is FridaKahlo. The lecture is on May 17th and lessons will be the following week. Movie Tickets We have reduced the price of our movie tickets to $6. The tickets are good for all showings and even include 3D movies. The Starlight Cinema is in Costa Mesa at Harbor and 19th. Order forms are available in the office. Earth Day Smencil Sales Because our Valentine Smencil-grams were so popular, we will be selling Smencils for Earth Day. Students can buy Smencils for themselves or have them delivered to a friend for just $1.00 during morning recesses from April 18th-20th. Teacher Appreciation Week We will be celebrating our wonderful teachers during the week of May 7th. Like last year, we will be showing our appreciation daily. Look for more details later this month. Jog-a-thon Many of you have asked about a jog-a-thon this year, and we are happy to announce that it is scheduled for Friday, June 1st. Family Nights Over 200 people attended our recent Skate Night. The theme was Pajama Night and it was great to see so many kids having fun in their PJ’s! At Ruby’s, our fundraiser earned $294.90. Our next Family Night will be at Rubio’s on May 2nd. Association Meeting Our next meeting will be on April 25, and we will be electing next year’s PTA Board Officers.
