  1. Parts of Speech Review Do Now #9 Name three parts of speech and give three examples for each of them. You may not use the examples on the back wall! Today’s Objective: Students will apply their knowledge of parts of speech by taking notes, Reader’s Workshop, and working collaboratively with 90% accuracy. Today’s Standards: WOC 1.5: Identify all parts of speech and types and structures of sentences.

  3. Parts of Speech • Apreposition shows relationship • Examples: in, above, with, around, on, from • A conjunctionjoins words, phrases, and clauses together • Examples: and, or, but, because, so • An adverbdescribes verbs and adjectives • Example: She ran home quickly.

  4. Reader’s Workshop:Parts of Speech • As you are reading today, find an example of a preposition, a conjunction, and an adverb in your book. When you find one, write down the entire sentence in your notebook. Underline the word. • After you have written down the words, write down why it is a preposition, conjunction, or adverb. • We will now be reading independently. Remember, reading is thinking, so we must remain silent during this time.

Exit Slip/Grade Review • Write your name, the date, and the period on a sheet or half sheet of paper • Copy the following sentences and identify the adverbs, conjunctions, and prepositions in each by underlining then and writing an “a”“c” or “p” above each. 1. I wanted to run a marathon, which is a very long race, but I left my sneakers in my closet. 2. Neither Marquis nor Kelby went to the movies on Friday.
