  1. Call for ProposalsEstablishment of a Research Laboratory By AMAL AHMED EL BADAWY, MD

  2. GENERALITIES • Deadline for Application: 30 April 2010 • Legibility: • Staff members in Zagazig University. • Actually present in the university at the time of submitting the proposal.

  3. Priority • The following will be the priority that according to it, the selection will be considered: • No similar lab exists in the university • The lab is introducing a new innovative technology in the university. • It will act a primary nucleus for a more elaborate sophisticated laboratory (center of Excellency). • Priority will be for lab that serves more than one department/faculty.

  4. Expected impact on the scientific research and community. • Relevance of the project to the long term research plan of the university • Ease of access to the developed lab by other stakeholders. • Proposal who have access fund from other organization.

  5. Summary of the Project Maximum of two pages which covers the following: • Rationale for the establishment of the lab. • Types of research and training that is going to serve • Expected outcomes • Availability of persons with the needed skills to guarantee proper functioning of the lab.

  6. Scope and Objectives Write a maximum of one page: It must describe the areas that will target and what hope to be achieved. • Scope: discipline, totally new or update, how it will end to be a central of excellence. • Objectives: By the end of this lab establishment what we will be able to do.

  7. Rational and Justification of needs Write a maximum of two pages describing: 1-Rational: • Why it is needed • How to assess such needs • How to prove it is needed

  8. Well equipped research environments: • Infra-structure for carrying new updated research • Trained staff on new technique • Become up to date with innovative research • Become a center for training • Become a center to solve problems related to community, industry, health etc.

  9. Benefits and Outcomes of the Project Maximum of two pages to cover the following: • Commercial Exploitability, • Economic, • Capacity, • Community Impact and • Other Benefits if present

Dissemination & Sustainability Write a maximum of two pages in which you describe: 1-Dissemination: Meetings, conference, Web site, Newsletter etc. 2-Sustainability:Capable of being continued; To keep in existence; maintain. Having other partners will serve both dissemination and sustainability

  11. What project sustainability means Maintaining the outcomes, goals and products Institutionalizing the process What project sustainability doesn’t mean Maintaining staff positions Maintaining all activities Depending on grant funding Project Sustainability Defined

  12. Quality Control & Monitoring • A maximum of two pages, in which you describe your overall quality control and monitoring strategies/methodologies. • How you plan to certify this lab in the future.

  13. Monitoring is the systematic, regular collection and occasional analysis of information to identify and possibly measure changes over a period of time. • Evaluation is the analysis of the effectiveness and direction of an activity and involves making a judgment about progress and impact.

  14. Indicators for Monitoring • Projects are usually monitored against Whether the project is: -Running on schedule -Running within the planned costs -Receiving adequate costs.

Evaluation …… Analysis on how successful the project has been in Transforming the means (i.e. the resources and inputs allocated to the project) through project activities into concrete project results Provides the stakeholders with information on inputs/costs per unit produced Analysis of the overall effects of the project Analysis of the contribution of the project purpose to the overall objectives Focus on long-term changes in the environment of the project “Collection” and analysis of information at the levels of communities and society at large focusing on the final beneficiaries of the project Also analysis of unintended impacts (negative and positive) Overall Objectives Change Impact Project Purpose + Assumptions Analysis on how well the production of project results Contributes to the achievement of the project purpose, i.e.: Are there clear Indications of changes and improvements that benefit the beneficiaries of the project? Uses base-line information on the pre project situation as a starting point Effectiveness utilisation Results + Assumptions action Activities+ Assumptions Efficiency allocation Means + Preconditions

  18. BUDGET • List and Prices of needed Equipment. • Name • Activity to serve • Expected price • Budget for Building innovation: • Repair of the lab • Furniture • Appliances • Equipment • Materials

  19. Budget for Implementation: • Cost of studies • Training • Seminars, conferences • Experts • Establishment of information system • Fees for certification. • Others

  20. FEASIBILTY STUDY • Proof that the Lab will function as expected: • How it will be managed • How it will proof that is needed • Maintenance of Equipment. • Plan • Availability of Maintenance skills • Cost, how you are going to get it

  21. TIME LINE • Schedule for carrying out the activities • Activities • Time needed to carried it out

  22. EXPERTISE • Name • Current Position • Description of expertise • How he/she got it • Explain how these expertise will serve the functioning of the lab.

  23. FOLLOW-UPTechnical Reports • One final report should be submitted at the end of the project. The report should include the following: • Structure of project management. • Efficiency and performance of the purchased equipment • Obstacles and challenges that faced the research • Alignment of project activities and progress with the original proposal • Plan for equipment maintenance and sustainability of its functioning • Brief financial report

  24. Financial Reports • A quarterly financial report is requested and a final one must be submitted by the end of the proposal period. • All original expenditure vouchers must be attached.

  25. CVS • Attach CVs for Key persons only (3 to 4 maximum: • It must highlight the relation of his expertise to this lab
