  5. New Naming Convention • City + POP • Exanple Cincinnati at Qwest pop = CNCNQ • Device Type • r = router • e = ethernet switch • a = atm switch • t = transponder • o = optronics

  6. New Naming Convention • Example CNCNQ-r0 = Cincinnati Qwest Router # 0 • All GSRs are r0 • All M7is are r1

  7. New Naming Convention • Next is function • bb = backbone • cpe = customer premise • maint = maintenance • core = optical • Example CNCNQ-r1.bb = Cincinnati Router #1 backbone

  8. New Naming Convention • Last step add domain name • So CNCNQ-R1.bb.oar.net is a complete name • Cincinnati router #1 backbone in the OARnet domain

  9. Hints for viewing stats If you have a GigE port remember to scale the view, e.g. 45 Mbps hardly shows up on a 100% view
