  2. It was built in 1599 by Shakespeare’s playing company which was known as the Lord Chamberlain’s Men. • It was burned down on June 29, 1613 during the performance of Henry VII. • It was also located in London. History of the Theatre

The owner of the old Globe Theater, James Burbage, moved his theatre to avoid having to pay the extra rent. • All of the men in the theatre had to take it apart, piece by piece in the middle of a cold night in December and carried it across River Thames. • The authorities in London made them leave the land in the city limits because their lease was up. Also they banned the public presentation of plays. They still owned the theater itself so they just moved the parts across the frozen river to the bankside. The Move

  4. The reason why it closed the first time is because it burned down on June 29, 1613. They shot off a cannon. There was also thatch, which is straw, and it was highly flammable. Bad idea to shoot a cannon when there is thatch around! The 1st Closing

  5. They rebuilt another theatre called Shakespeare’s Globe by River Thames in London in 1614. • This happened during Shakespeare’s Time • This time they built it with a tiled roof instead of the highly flammable thatched roof. The 2nd Globe Theatre

  6. They closed it the second time because Civil War broke out and the Puritan Parliament issued an ordinance that closed all stage plays in 1642. The 2nd Closing
