  4. Nutmeg Cake A Favorite Recipe From The Farmer’s Cottage at The Norlands

  5. All Good Cooks Gather Their Ingredients Beforehand.

  6. Ingredients • 1 Cup Sugar • ½ Cup Melted Lard • 1 Egg • 1 Cup Sour Milk • 2 Cups Flour • 1 Tsp. Saleratus (Baking Soda) • 1 Tsp. Salt • 1 Tsp. Nutmeg

  7. Directions Cream sugar and lard. Add egg and beat.

  8. Directions Continued… Blend in dry ingredients Alternating with sour milk.

  9. My Favorite Part! Adding Nutmeg

  10. Next, Make Sure The Stove Is REALLY Hot!

  11. Pour The Batter Into A Well Greased Pan

  12. Bake In a moderate oven (350°) until done. About 30 minutes.

  13. Be Careful. It’s Hot!

  14. While We’re Waiting…

  15. We Could Always Make Butter?!

  16. Add Room Temperature Cream to Butter Churn and Mix Until it Thickens. This might take awhile…

  18. Strain

  19. Add Salt to TasteandForm into a Ball

  20. Meanwhile…
