  1. WOMEN OF MODESTY Women’s Devotional Lesson Weng Monje

  2. Fashion is relevant to every woman. • We spend time and money on clothing. • We all have opinions about our wardrobe.

  3. What you wear • In the Bible, modesty is connected to what you wear. • That’s why Paul says in 1 Timothy 2:9, “I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety… appropriate for women who profess to worship God.” • “…women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control…” (ESV)

  4. QUIZ [True or False]From the book “The Look” by Nancy Leigh Demoss • There’s nothing right or wrong about particular clothing styles. It’s all just a matter of taste and personal opinion. • The Bible tells us what styles of clothing Christians should wear.

  5. 3. What I wear is not really anyone else’s concern. I should be free to wear the kind of clothes that I like and that I feel comfortable wearing. 4. Modesty means dressing in a way that is outdated, dumpy and unattractive. 5. If a girl doesn’t wear trendy clothes that are at least a little revealing, guys won’t notice her.

  6. 6. Except for guys who are “over-sexed”, most men are not really affected by the way women dress. Most guys don’t even notice how women dress. 7. I can’t help it if guys struggle morally because of what I wear. It’s up to the guys to control their minds. I shouldn’t have to change the way I dress just because they can’t control themselves.

  7. 8. Christians are free to dress as they wish, because we’re not under the law, but under grace. It’s legalistic for parents or youth leaders to establish guidelines or standards for the way young people dress. 9. Christian women should never wear clothes that are revealing or that look sexy (i.e. clothes designed to arouse sexual desire or interest). 10. There are some public places where it’s OK for Christian women to wear clothing that exposes their body.

  8. Whose Idea Was It To Wear Clothes Anyway? • Have you ever wondered why we have to wear clothes at all? • When God made the first man and woman, He made them without clothes (Gen2:25). • Before Adam and Eve sinned, there was no clothing… and there was no shame and guilt. • When sin entered the world, they experienced shame and self-consciousness (Gen3:7-11)

  9. Adam and Eve immediately tried to cover their nakedness and shame. • Adam and Eve’s primary concern was their nakedness, God’s primary concern was that they disobeyed His Word and that their relationship with Him had been broken.

  10. God didn’t overlook the problem of their nakedness • Gen3:21 • Adam and Eve covered just their private parts. God covered their bodies. • The God-created purpose of clothing was to cover the body.

  11. Three Life Principles • Ownership. (1Cor6:19-20) • Lordship. (Rom 14:8) • Citizenship. (Rom 12:2)

  12. World’s view vs. God’s view • Beauty is external and physical VS. Beauty is internal and spiritual. • Your body is your identity VS. Your body is a temple- it houses your soul. • Dress for people to notice you VS. Dress to please God and reflect His glory. • If you got it, flaunt it VS. Exemplify humility and modesty • What you wear is just external VS. What you wear reflects your heart.

  13. Pasig 2007 survey (53 respondents) • What’s obvious : We must not lay a stumbling-block in their (brothers) way, nor blow up the fire of their lust – Richard Baxter

  14. Challenge: Evaluate your Wardrobe • Exposing • Emphasizing

  15. Blessings of Modesty • Peace • Power • Protection • Purity • Privilege • Praise

  16. “QUIZ”

  17. In closing, let us remember that GOD CARES ABOUT what we wear. • How we look is a reflection of what we believe. • Let us embrace the godly principle of modesty!
