  2. Ethics Statement (Policy 5-1.5) • http://policy.mcps.org/5-1.5.htm • 1. Make the well-being of students the fundamental value of all decision-making and actions; • 2. Support the civil and human rights of all individuals; • 3. Maintain personal and professional behaviors that demonstrate positive role modeling for students, colleagues, and the education profession; • 4. Refrain from discourse and actions that undermine the integrity of self or other employees and compromise the professional standards of the school division; • 5. Fulfill job responsibilities with honesty and integrity; • 6. Maintain the standards of the school division and seek to improve effectiveness through continuous professional development; • 7. Avoid using position for personal gain through political, social, religious, economic, or other influence; and • 8. Honor all contracts with honesty and integrity until fulfillment or release.

  3. OSHA • http://www.osha.gov/workers.html • Receive information and training about hazards, methods to prevent harm, and the OSHA standards that apply to their workplace. The training must be in a language you can understand; • Observe testing that is done to find hazards in the workplace and get test results; • Review records of work-related injuries and illnesses; • Get copies of their medical records; • Request OSHA to inspect their workplace; and • Use their rights under the law free from retaliation and discrimination.

  4. District Drug & Alcohol(Policy 5-3.1) • http://policy.mcps.org/5-3.1.htm • The unlawful or unauthorized manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession or use of alcohol or other drugs in the workplace; • The impairment in the workplace from the use of alcohol or other drugs (except the use of drugs for legitimate medical purposes); • Possession or consumption of an alcoholic beverage while operating a school bus and/or transporting children; • The criminal conviction for a: • violation of any criminal drug law, based upon conduct occurring either on or off the workplace; or • violation of any alcoholic beverage control law, or law which governs driving while intoxicated, based upon conduct occurring in the workplace; • The failure to report to their supervisors that they have been convicted of any offense as defined in Section (c), above, within five (5) calendar days of the conviction; • The use of alcohol, narcotics, hallucinogens, depressants, stimulants, or marijuana off School Board property which affects an employee's ability to perform his or her duties, or which generates publicity or circumstances which adversely affects the school division or its employees.

  5. Harassment / Bullying(Policy 5-1.2) • http://policy.mcps.org/5-1.2.htm • Communicate with perpetrator that conduct is offensive and should stop. • If it continues: • Document it. • Report it to Supervisor.

  6. Notification of Conviction • Employees must report conviction of illegal or Prohibited Acts within 5 calendar days of conviction (Policy 5-3.1).

  7. Mandatory Reporting • Must report to Supervisor or Local Authority all of the following: • Steriods, Drugs & Alcohol (Policy 5-3.1) • Child Abuse or Neglect (Policy 5-4.3)

Its purpose is to help employees and their families identify, resolve and gain control over personal problems that may be interfering with work and daily life.
