  2. What is pollution? • Pollution is the presence or introduction of a substance or thing into an environment. This substance is harmful to that environment and can upset that environment and its ecosystem

  3. What are bio indicators • Bioindicators are species used to monitor the health of an environment or ecosystem • Bio indicators include both plants and animals. • Plants that are bio indicators include:mosses, lichen, tree bark, bark pockets, tree rings ,leaves and fungi. • An increase or decrease in animal population can also be used as bio indicators.

  4. Bioamplification • Bioamplification is the increase in concentration of a substance, such as pesticide, that occurs in a food chain as a consequence of: 1.Persistence(cant be broken down by environmental proccesses 2.Food Chain energetics 3.Low rate of internal degradation • Substances in bioamplification, such as pesticides, can harm animals in an ecosystem by polluting their environment

  5. Bioaccumulation • Bioaccumulation refers to the accumulation of substances, such as pesticides, or other organic chemicals in an organism • Bio accumulation occurs when an organism absorbs a toxic substance more than it loses that substance.

  6. Importance of minimizing pollution • By minimizing pollution: 1.Ecosystems around the world will be normal and will not be polluted 2.Many animals that are vital to the world’s ecosystem will not dwindle 3.
