  1. Second Grade Review News You Can Use September 14, 2012 • A quick peek at our week… • In Reading, we focused on understanding the elements of Folktales. We read Martina the Beautiful Cockroach, Soap! Soap! Don’t Forget the Soap!, The Green Frogs, and Armadilly Chilly. • During Writing, we worked on our Writers’ Workshop routine and had wonderful lessons with our school Literacy Coach Ms. Ingrassia on writers craft. • Our continued focus in math this week was understanding Place Value up to 1000. We continued to use hands on math activities and manipulatives to show our understanding. We played games with Number Bags and dice rolling. Next week we will begin to move into Unit 2: Becoming Fluent with Addition and Subtraction. • In Science, we finished up our lesson Science Based Inquiry. The students really enjoyed watching our Venus Fly Trap eat a small piece of deli turkey. This isn’t the best thing to feed a Venus Fly Trap but definitely the easiest way to demonstrate the process for kids! • Important News, Reminders, and Dates • September: • 24th – Donuts for Dads A-L 7:30 • 25th – Donuts for Dads M-Z 7:30 • 25th – Fall Picture Day • News: • Daves Creek is pre-selling tickets for the Cumming Country Fair & Festival October 4-14th. An order form to purchase tickets will come home in your child’s Friday Communication Folder today. Please be sure to complete and return the bottom portion of the order form with your payment by Friday, September 21st if you would like to purchase tickets early! • Fall Pictures will be on Tuesday, September 25th. Order forms are coming home today. Spelling Vowel Pattern Bridge e: wipe, sunshine, cupcake, hope, white, blame Review and Sight Words: some, what, from, pond, jaw, fault, hotdog ***nonsense words will also be given on Friday test to check mastery of the vowel pattern of the week as well as previously taught patterns Vocabulary: Wordly Wise Lesson 3 antenna, balance, boulder, cliff, joint, machine, motor, muscle, planet, slope ***Lesson 3 Vocabulary test on Friday, September 28th.
