Create TWO FOLDERS ON YOUR FLASH DRIVE • ONE FOLDER FOR HOMEWORK • ONE FOLDER FOR TEMPLATES The Homework folder can be called SolidWorks Homework or SolidWorks Projects or [Your Name Here] Work The Templates folder can be called MY TEMPLATES or SolidWorks Templates or Shirley’s Templates or [Your Name Here] Templates

  3. Create a Check List for the Start of Class • Your flight check list should include Modifying the system settings in SolidWorks to your liking Give yourself five to ten minutes at the start of class to make sure you have SW configured the way you want to work

  4. Document Settings • Add your template folder to the File Locations under General System settings • Verify that your document uses ANSI not ISO Drawings and parts will comply with ASME Y14.5-2009

  5. Adding your Templates to File Locations Go to Options Go to File Locations Add the path to your templates folder

  6. Creating a Part Template • You should have one part template for INCHES and one part template for MM • Both templates should use ANSI dimensioning • MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THE FILE AS A TEMPLATE FILE or you can’t use it to start a new part • MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THE FILE IN YOUR TEMPLATES FOLDER or you won’t see it when you start a new part

  7. Part Template • Page 1-33 in text Start a NEW part Go to OPTIONS Select the Document Properties tab. Set the UNITS Set the Drafting Standard to ANSI. Save as TEMPLATE in your templates folder.

  8. You will be creating a lot of parts • Save your parts in your homework folder • In a couple of weeks you will learn how to create drawings to hand in Homework\Lab Work: Page 1-117 1.2a – Create a Metric Part Template Page 1-120 EX 1.11. 1.12 Page 1-121 EX 1.13, EX1.14 Page 1-122 EX 1.15, EX 1.16 Page 1-123 EX 1.17 Page 1-125 EX 1.19
