  1. CATHIMarie Curie Initial Training NetworkCryogenics, Accelerators and Targets at HIE-ISOLDE Guillaume KAUTZMANN (BE/ABP/SU)* WP4, ESR6 Mid Term Review Meeting, 26 September 2012

  2. Outline • Background • Activities at CERN LINAC Other • Training • Contacts • Publications • Future Work and Trainings

  3. Background Previous Education: • 2009: Masters of Science in Topography • National Institute of Applied Science, Strasbourg, France Work Experience: • 2010-sep. 2011: Instrumentation Engineer on the construction of the french nuclear research facility “Laser MegaJoule” • Soldata, Bordeaux, France • Jan. 2009-Sep. 2009: Master Thesis and working in GPS and Airborne Surveying Methods • Fugro Geoid, Montpellier, France

  4. Activities at CERN LINAC – Alignment Specifications • Alignment and monitoring of the Cavities and Solenoids in the Cryomodules • Alignment w.r.to a common nominal beam line (NBL) along the Linac • Permanent system • Precision demanded along radial and height axis at 1 sigma level : • 300 microns for the Cavities • 150 microns for the Solenoids NBL ~16 m +/-150 micr +/-300 micr

  5. Activities at CERN LINAC – Alignment Concept Proposed concept: • Hardware: • BCAM based observation • Metrological tables • Targets • Viewport crossing • Conditions: • Cryogenic • High Vacuum 3D Reconstruction Software

  6. Activities at CERN LINAC – Specific (1/2) BCAM Studies: • Field of view issue • Development of a new BCAM called HBCAM •  Technical specification + Technical Visit to Brandeis (USA) Viewports studies: • Tests to check the viewport qualities • Tests to check and validate theoretical models in order to correct the effects on the optical measurements • Deformation  Liberec University (Czech Republic) + CERN TE/MSC-CMI Target studies: • Studies of different target types  Two types are going to detailed conception • Cryotest withMario Herrmann (TE/VSC)

  7. Activities at CERN LINAC – Specific (2/2) Software: • Participation on the reconstruction software done by S.Waniorek (BE/ABP/SU) • Test bench: • Needed to : • - Validate the theoretical foundation of the software • - Test of the different hardware parts • First results promising on the comparison reference measurement/ Reconstructed position by the software Integration: • Implication in several decisions regarding the integration of the alignmnent system in the tunnel • Integration of the alignment system to the Cryomodule design

  8. Activities at CERN Other Cryomodules Assembly: • Participation on the survey and alignment for: • Assembly chain of the cryomodules • Clean room design Transfer lines: • Participation on Transfer lines Working Group • Special focus on the alignment of elements between magnets • Inter Tank: • Participation on DiagBox Working Group

  9. Training (1/2) First months: • Familiarization phase with the survey methods and CERN administrative procedures Training courses: • “Radiological Protection Course”@ CERN; • “Self-Rescue Mask (Biocell)” @ CERN; • “Post-induction training (HRT, EDH, EDMS, INDICO and CDS)” @ CERN; • “Project Engineering” @ CERN;

  10. Training (2/2) Technical Visit: • ATLAS Experiment visit where a BCAM solution is implemented; • Brandeis University (Waltham, Massachusetts, USA); • Open Source Instrument (Waltham, Massachusetts, USA); • Tevatron (Fermilab, Illinois, USA); • Conference, Seminars, Workshop: • “12th International Workshop on Accelerator” • @ Fermilab, Batavia, U.S.A (September 10-14, 2012);

  11. Contacts • Contacts • with other MC Fellows • with other CERN Departments, principally TE • outside CERN: • Meca-Test (mechanical company, Switzerland) for the target development; • STPS (mechanical company, France) for the test Bench; • EREO (optics) for the development of tools for window adjustment; • OSI for the development of new BCAM;

  12. Publications • Technical specification: “HIE-ISOLDE Specification for the development Of HBCAM” EDMS N°: 1231567; • IWAA 2012: • 1. “The HIE-ISOLDE Alignment and monitoring system Software and test mock up” (primary author + presentation); • 2. “HIE-ISOLDE Alignment and Monitoring System Technical Design and Project Status” (primary author); • Cryomodule design Working Group: • 1. “HIE-ISOLDE Cryomodule Technical Review -The Alignment System - April 26th, 2012”, EDMS N°: 1214768, (Participation on the presentation support); • 2. “News on BCAM tests – December, 15th, 2012”; • Beam department newsletter: Article in the life section - September 2012 • Several presentations for working groups, security, quality…
