  1. FINAL MAJOR PROJECT

  2. These skills have helped me because I now understand how to use software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier and Adobe Audition better and can produce more effective pieces of work. Additionally I know how to compose camera shots better and what each camera shot communicates to the audience and how to use each shot effectively. These all tie into computer skills because its something we use daily and is one of the key skills needed for the future employment. 3 SKILLS I GAINED SOFTWARE SKILLS CINEMATOGRAPHY SKILLS SKILLS THAT HAVE IMPROVED COMPUTER SKILLS SOCIAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS TEAMWORK SKILLS CREATIVITY SKILLS PIECE OF WORK IM MOST PROUD OF WEBSITE/BLOG AND INTERACTIVE BUILDING SKILLS The piece of work I am proudest of is the Crisis Charity advert because Reilly and I worked together to find participants to act in the advert and also filmed and edited the video together. A lot of research and teamwork went into the project and although it wasn't the best video it gave us something to improve on. WHAT I WANT TO EXPLORE IN THE FUTURE I would like to explore more of the print aspect in the future such as making posters in Photoshop and additionally writing articles and stories. THE MEDIUM THAT IS MY STRONGEST WEAKEST I think my strongest medium is video editing because over the past two trimesters I have been able to create several different videos and edit them which has helped me develop my editing skills and aided me in discovering new ideas to use in editing. The medium that I need to develop is print work such as adobe Photoshop because I'm still not satisfied by the work produced from Photoshop.

  9. THE DATA COLLECTED SHOWS THAT COMPARED TO THE OTHER 2 IDEAS I HAVE THOUGHT OF THE STUDENTS WOULD PREFER TO WATCH A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT CULTURE AND ADAPTING TO BRITISH CULTURE.

  10. MY FINAL IDEA… & JUSTIFYING IT OUT OF THE THREE IDEAS I HAD MINDMAPPED I CHOSE TO DO THE ONE ABOUT CULTURE AND ADAPTING TO BRITISH CULTURE BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT I HAVE ACCESS TO A GOOD AMOUNT OF PEOPLE I COULD ASK TO PARTICIPATE. ADDITIONALLY I HAVE RESOURCES SUCH AS THE COLLEGE LIBRARY THAT I COULD FIND BOOKS ON CULTURE TO SUPPORT MY PROJECT AND ALSO USE THE SCHOOLS COMPUTER SOFTWARE TO EDIT MY WORK. THERE IS ALSO THE SCHOOLS EQUIPMENT THAT IS AVAILABLE TO BORROW TO CARRY OUT MY PRODUCTION

  11. ABOUT CULTURE MANY PEOPLE THINK CULTURE IS JUST ABOUT THE CUSTOMS AND NORMS OF YOUR COUNTRY E.G IF YOU WERE BRITISH, BUT AS THE DEFINITIONS SUGGESTS THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT SUB CULTURES FOR EXAMPLE GOTHS ARE A SUB CULTURE BECAUSE THAT PARTICULAR GROUP OF PEOPLE MAY HOLD DIFFERENT NORMS, VALUES AND CUSTOMS THEN OTHERS. CULTURE IS THE CUSTOMS AND SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR OF A PARTICULAR PEOPLE OR SOCIETY. MANY COUNTRIES ARE HIGHLY POPULATED BY IMMIGRANTS AND THE CULTURE IS INFLUENCED BY THE MANY GROUPS THAT NOW MAKE UP THE COUNTRY. THIS CREATES CULTURAL DIVERSITY FOR EXAMPLE ENGLAND IS HIGHLY POPULATED BY IMMIGRANTS WHICH HAS CREATED CULTURAL DIVERSITY IN BRITISH CULTURE. Accessed 19/04/16 @13.58

  12. DEFINITIONS Accessed 19/04/16 @14.01 GOOGLE DEFINITIONS CULTURE: THE IDEA, CUSTOMS AND SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR OF A PARTICULAR PEOPLE OR SOCIETY. ETHNICITY: THE FACT OF BELONGING TO A SOCIAL GROUP THAT HAS A COMMON NATIONAL OR CULTURAL TRADITION NATIONALITY: THE STATE OF BELONGING TO A PARTICULAR NATION. MIGRATION: THE MOVEMENT BY PEOPLE FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER WITH THE INTENTIONS OF SETTLING TEMPORARILY OR PERMANANTLY IN THE NEW LOCATION. EMIGRATION: THE ACT OF LEAVING ONES OWN COUNTRY TO SETTLE PERMANANTLY IN ANOTHER: MOVING ABROAD. IMMIGRATION: THE ACTION OF COMING TO LIVE PERMANANTLY IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY. NET MIGRATION IS THE DIFFERENCE OF IMMIGRANTS AND EMIGRANTS OF AN AREA IN A PERIOD OF TIME, DIVIDED PER THOUSAND INHABITANTS. A POSITIVE VALUE REPRESENTS MORE PEOPLE ENTERING THE COUNTRY THEN LEAVING IT.

  13. CULTURE AND ADAPTING TO BRITISH CULTURE RESEARCH STATISTICS: IMMIGRATION TO THE UK CATEGERISED BY CITIZENSHIP THE GRAPH SHOWS THERES ARE THOUSAND MORE NON EU CITIZENS IMMIGRATING TO THE UK THEN THERE AN EU CITIZENS OR BRITISH CITIZENS Accessed 19/04/16 @ 12.03 (3&4) Accessed 19/04/16 @12.08 GRAPH TWO SHOWS THE NON BRITISH IMIGRATION IS HIGHER THEN THE NON BRITISH NET MIGRATION OR EMIGRATION. THIS MEANS THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE COMING TO LIVE IN BRITAIN PERMANTLY.

  14. PRIMARY RESEARCH I conducted a piece of primary research by creating a survey about culture using 'Survey Monkey'. (Accessed 27/04/16 @11.38) (5) I gathered data by sending people on Facebook the link to complete the survey about culture. Out of the 12 responses these are some of the data I gathered. 75% answered yes and 25% answered they weren’t sure. 9 ANSWERED YES AND 3 ANSWERED NO. ALL 12 BELIEVED IMIGRANTS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO LIVE IN ENGLAND. ALL ANSWERED AROUND THE IDEA THAT IT IS GIVING THEM A BETTER LIFE.

  15. CARIBBEAN CULTURE These things are the most important aspects of Caribbean culture Caribbean food has been influenced by many other countries such as Africa, Europe, East India, Arabia and China. Popular dishes such as jerk chicken and curry goat have become more popular and well known in England because of the areas influenced by the Caribbean. Meats and seafood cooked in the Caribbean are cooked with distinctive spices found in the area. A well known Caribbean spice is jerk seasoning. A good way of getting to know the Caribbean culture is by going to one of the many festivals. Such as one, ‘carnival’. This is a big festival in the Caribbean's where food is made and decorations is hung up in the street. People are also generally dressed in colourful outfits. Jerk Seasoning (Accessed 26/04/2016 @ 13.56) (2) Carnival in Trinidad (Accessed 27/04/16 @9.45) Although English is spoken in the Caribbean, Patois is very popular throughout the Caribbean. 16. CROATION CULTURE These things are the most important aspects of Croatian culture There are many foods that are popular in Croatia such as: Truffles which are popular in Istria. And pasta which is very popular in Dalmatian. Additionally there is Istarska Jota which is a stew named after Istria. A large majority of Croatia are members of the catholic church. Pie chart supporting this (Accessed 27/04/16 @11.54) (8) In Croatia the language spoken is mainly South Slavic Victory day is a public holiday in Croatia that is a memorial to the war of independence (august 5th) Accessed 03/05/16 @11.26 Accessed 03/05/16 @11.21 In Croatia they have a public holiday called ‘Epiphany’ also commonly known as three kings day. It is celebrated on January 6th and many dress up as the three kings, visit houses and sing about the birth of Jesus. There is also a holiday called ‘Corpus Christi’ which is a Latin phrase that refers to the body of Christ. The holiday is to celebrate the last supper on the day before Jesus was crucified. This holiday is also celebrated in the Caribbean (7) LINKS: ACCESSED 27/04/16 @12.17 ACCESSED 27/04/16 @12.18 (6)

  17. AFRICAN CULTURE These things are the most important aspects of Caribbean culture Africa has 11 official language's including: Swazi and Zulu. Traditional African attire is formed of colourful cloths originating from Ethiopia. The clothing has developed from the traditional clothing to more modern clothing. Accessed 03/05/16 @12.13 Much like in Croatia, Africans celebrate ‘Epiphany’ as well. This is celebrated on January 19th instead of January 6th which is when its celebrated in Croatia. Modern African Clothing - Accessed 03/05/16 @14.17 Africa is one of the most multicultural countries in the world and is described as the rainbow nation (a term first used by Nelson Mandela). Immigration in Africa has given the country a higher percentage of white Europeans, Indians and Chinese. Famous traditional African food includes: Pounded yam, fufu, stew, sweet potatoes and jellof rice. The stews most commonly go with the pounded yam or fufu and can be made with a variety of meats or fish. Stews can be made of any of the following ingredients: Okra, spinach or spices. Accessed 03/05/16 @12.13 Accessed 03/05/16 @14.31

  18. When Migration first started and the EU referendum Migration is believed to have first started around 60,000 years ago with the migration out of Africa. This was the migration of the homo erectus from Africa to the rest of the ‘old world’. Ever since then people have been migrating from one country to another. (Business Insider, 2016) http://uk.businessinsider.com/prehistoric-human-migration-from-africa-animated-map-2015-5?r=US&IR=T

  19. There was a massive case of migration around the time of world war 2 and especially after 1945 when the Germans migrated from Germany. World war 2 had a big effect on migration in the united states as in 1937, 50,000 people were admitted into the states. Because of this attitude towards immigration changed which is believed to affect the way migration is seen now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_human_migrations (Wikipedia, 2016) This is shown with current affairs in the UK, The EU Referendum. This is the vote of whether the UK should stay in the European union or not. Some of the population of Britain would like to leave the EU because of one of the main ideas of the EU called ‘free movement’ which is that you wouldn’t need a visa to live in another EU country. Not having free movement could mean the statistics of the immigration to the UK would be lower. http://immigrationtous.net/319-world-war-ii-and-immigration.html (Immigration to North America, 2016) (18) http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-32810887 (BBC News, 2016) (19)

  20. QUESTIONS These are the basic questions I could use for each interview but I also want the interviewee to tell their story and for it to be personal so the questions wont need to be used strictly. Please state your full name and ethnicity. Tell us a bit about where you where born. When did you move to England? What was it like adapting to life in England and the culture. How does English culture differ to your birthplaces/ parents culture? Why did you move to England? What was it like to raise children in England and to raise them in a country that has a different culture to your birthplaces culture?

  21. TARGET AUDIENCE I aim for my target audience to be around 17+ (17 - 50) This is because these ages are younger adults/adults Although that is a big range I feel that any younger then 16 wouldn’t understand the importance and extent of the topic but that it can also affect that age too because they’ve grown up around their parents and are at that age where they have already noticed the cultural differences. Additionally I feel that ages older then 17 will be interested in the topic because it could affect them because either they’ve gone through it, there parents went through it or they could know someone who went through it. For it to attract my target audience if it went on TV for example I would put it on TV around 8ish because this is around the time that teenagers are back home from college already and adults are getting back from work, having dinner and watching TV.

  22. Research showed that London is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the UK. This combined with my target audience of 17+ could mean that London would be a good platform to showcase my work for example by trying to get my video out there by contacting BBC which broadcast all over the UK and additionally have online services such as the iPlayer which attract the younger audiences it could also reach outside the UK. (Wikipedia, 2016) Accessed 20/06/16 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_UK_locations_with_large_ethnic_minority_populations

  23. TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH I used survey monkey to create a survey researching about my target audience. Out of these 11 are female and 9 and male.

  24. This means that out of my target audience only 2 people are most likely to watch culture documents. I would need to make my video interesting to get my target audience to watch it.

  25. What do you think would make a documentary more interesting and appealing to watch? This aids me in creating a more interesting and appealing video to my target audience. What don't you like about documentaries? The answers supplied here gives me more ideas on how to differentiate my documentary from others.

  26. EMAIL TO YOUTUBER ROXXAURAUS ENQURING ABOUT CULTURE PROJECT I emailed aYouTuber called Roxxaurus because she has nearly a million followers on YouTuber and I found out she moved to England from Poland. As she is around 20 year olds that could attract more of the younger age for the target audience.

  27. QUICK EVALUATION OF RESEARCH The secondary research is effective because through the internet I have managed to find out aspects of each culture I am researching. This research will help me in my project because I can alter my questions now that I know more about each individual culture. This secondary research through the internet has been informative because it has given me more information about the topic of my project. Also the statistics and definitions are helpful to the project because it gives me more facts to work with.

  28. TECHNICAL SKILLS I will need to be organised to produce and effective piece of work. Additionally I need good time management skills to be able to stick to schedule and plan accordingly. This additionally will help me develop my skills in the areas because its crucial to have these skills during the project for the project to be completed on time and as planned. I need to improve my software skills to create a professional product and also to show that I'm learning as I go and improving my skills. I watched videos during as a guide for adobe premiere pro and how to make my own videos more aesthetically pleasing because I wanted to be able to improve on how to use adobe and also expand my learning. I will need to show a range of techniques on Adobe Premiere pro whilst editing to create a professional, creative and appealing finish product. This is where watching adobe guide videos will aid me. As the video shows step by step how to do certain things relevant to adobe.

  29. I researched how to conduct my video by watching other documentaries and shows and looking at the style of which they interview participants and edit their shows. For example the main show I was intrigued by was the show ‘First Dates’ because of how they interview the people on their show. Evidence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZ_QNbE2jXw This has helped me produce a better video because It created a more casual approach to interviewing in my video and if I had done a two shot interview then I would have created a different approach. Additionally I have practised trial shots in the past which aided me in my project because it enabled me to learn what camera shots are good for what your are attempting to portray to the audience. https://miahharperjohn.wordpress.com/2015/10/19/photography-task-2b/ I also reviewed my piece of work on interview techniques to see how to create a more natural approach to the interview. https://miahharperjohn.wordpress.com/2016/01/25/interview-technique-analysis/ Links accessed 18/06/16
