  1. Final Project Geo 12

  2. Your project will display your Demonstrate the knowledge, and skills that you have developed in Geography 12.

  3. Your project must include examples of how the earth impacts humans and how humans impact the earth.... Your project must also demonstrate understanding of the outcomes..

  4. 1. Choose a location. You must pick a location that you either are familiar with or would like to learn more about.

  5. Be Creative Think of ways to present your outcomes.. Playdough, Powerpoint, Food, Stories, Poems,Songs, Posters However you want as long as you identify and explain the geographic topics..

  6. Addressing the Major Outcomes From each major outcome area choose several outcomes to demonstrate: Tectonics Gradation Weather and Climate Biomes Energy Managing the Environment

  7. Tectonics Outcomes Using your tectonics outcomes from Unit 1 identify and explain the uniqueness of your location. Eg. Honolulu, Hawaii-- B1-E Types of Volcanoes Oahu was over a hot spot in the ocean floor and was at one time an active volcano.

  8. Tectonics- Example- Continued Diamond Head is a shield volcano on the edge of Honolulu it was formed as the island of Oahu edged NW over the hotspot. The shield volcano of Diamond Head is now dormant and eroding. Shield volcanoes occur mainly on ocean floors. They are composed of fluid basaltic lava and eventually harden to form a shape of a shield. They do not typically have explosive eruptions but rather continuosly extrude basaltic lava which cools and forms lava fields..

  9. Photo of Shield Volcano-Diamond Head

  10. Human- Interaction People have benefitted from the volcanic landscape by moving on to the new land created by the volcano. Over time the rock erodes and creates soil that allows for farming. Diamond Head was used during WW 2 to place a series of look outs and fortified artillery buried into the mountain in case of Japanese attack.. Today Diamond Head is tourist attraction and is a protected area because of heavy usage by tourists. Diamond Head is one of the main attraction in the city of Honolulu..

  11. Human Impact--

  12. Unit 2 Gradation Outcomes Using the Gradation Outcomes identify and explain characteristics of the landscape in your region... Eg. Honolulu- How has Diamond Head the volcano eroded and worn down over time.. Discuss- Weathering processes Beach erosion in Waikiki what is happening to the beach? How is landscape influencing humans choice? How is man impacting landscape?

  13. Gradation Outcome C4-Drainage Basins If you observe the outer rim of the volcano you will notice that the drainage pattern of water in this area is radial in nature. This means that water flows downward from the upper part of the volcano during rain and begins to erode gullies through a process of water transporting the lighter rock and sand and leaving behind the harder volcanic rock. As a a result a series of gullies is continuing to deepen around the outer rim of Diamond Head..

  14. Gullies caused by water erosion

  15. Unit 3- Weather and Climate Use your weather and climate outcomes to explain the conditions for Honolulu... You could incorporate info from your Climate project... Eg.. Explain why Hawaii is warm all year.. Explain why the NE trade winds are formed and cause the east sides of the islands to be rainforest. Eg. How has the weather affected human choice.

  16. Unit 4- Biosphere Using your biome outcomes identify and explain unique characteristics of the Biome that your location exists... Eg.. Include common plants, animals, soils and threats to the biome. Eg. How are humans adapting to survive in the biome..

  17. Unit 5. Energy Management Your project must demonstrate considerations for use of energy in this part of the world. What is the commonly used energy source? Why? What are economic, social, and political consequences for using this energy? Has the energy source or use changed? Explain... Eg. Hawaii-

  18. Unit 6. Managing the Environment Identify two environmental issues of the location of study.. Identify and communicate the complexities in solving this problem...Include potential solutions and problems implementing solutions.. Eg. Hawaii

  19. Criteria for Geo 12 Final Project 4- Student Identifys and explain outcomes for the location at a level of superior understanding. Student can apply how the example affects humans/earth and the corresponding results/responses whether positive or negative.. Eg.. Student explains the volcanic activity forming the Hawaiian Islands. Student explains how humans use unique volcanic landscapes for their benefit while risking future volcanic activity

  20. Examples..of 4-- Exceeding Expectations Student would explain in detail the formation of a shield volcano in detail specifically a Hawaiian shield volcano like Mana Loa, Mauna Kea,Kiluea.. Student would give examples of how the landscape has been transformed and how humans have impacted the area positively and negatively...

  21. Exceeding Expectations.. Student would identify/explain examples in detail related to the following as well: Gradation Weather/Climate Biomes Energy Resource Managing the Environment...

  22. Fully Meeting Expectations-3 Student would explain the main points causing formation of a shield volcano in detail specifically a Hawaiian shield volcano like Mana Loa, Mauna Kea,Kiluea.. Student would give examples of how the landscape has been transformed and how humans have impacted the area positively and negatively...

  23. Minimally Meeting-2 Student would explain in limited detail the formation of a shield volcano in detail specifically a Hawaiian shield volcano like Mana Loa, Mauna Kea,Kiluea.. Student would give examples of how the landscape has been transformed and how humans have impacted the area positively and negatively...

  24. Not Yet Meeting-1 Student would not be able to explain the formation of a shield volcano in detail specifically a Hawaiian shield volcano like Mana Loa, Mauna Kea,Kiluea.. Student would give incorrect examples of how the landscape has been transformed and how humans have impacted the area positively and negatively...
