  1. Chapter 11Data and Graphs

  2. Day….. • No School • Types of Graphs • Dot Plots • Histograms • Box and Whisker Plots

  3. Day 1

  4. No School

  5. Day 2

  6. Bell Work Justify your Response

  7. I Can…. Identify types of graphs.

  8. Vocabulary Numerical Data- • Information gathered for statistical purposes. • Used to show the number of times a value appears within a given period of time. Frequency Table - Dot Plot - • Used to show the frequency of data on a number line. • Used to show the frequency of data divided into equal intervals. (i.e. bar graph) Histogram- Line Graph- Used to show changes over time. Circle Graph- Used to show part to whole comparisons (i.e. percentages) Used to arrange data by place value and ordered least to greatest. Stem and Leaf Plot - Stem- The digits of the greatest place value in a stem and leaf plot. (example: 14 or 243 or 2,876). Leaf - The digits of the least place value in a stem and leaf plot. (example 14 or 243 or 2,876 )

  9. Vocabulary Box Plot - • A diagram constructed using five values. Used to display measures of central tendency. Measures of Central Tendency- Numbers used to describe the center of a set of data. The numbers include the mean, median, and mode. Average/ Mean- • The sum of two or more quantities divided by the number of quantities. • The middle number in a set of data that has been arranged in numerical order. If the data set has an even number the median is the mean of the two middle numbers. Median- Mode - The number or items that appear most often in a set of data. Range - The difference between the greatest number and the least number in a set of data. Outlier- A value that is much higher or much lower than the other numbers in a set of data.

  10. Types of Graphs • Box Plot • Circle Graph • Dot Plot • Frequency Table • Histogram • Line Graph • Stem and Leaf Plot ***Please refer to the in class notes for review***
