  1. A NEW YEAR SERMON “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).

  2. Growth - Spiritual • Growth should be “natural”. It happens “just because”. • But in the Spiritual realm, usually it doesn’t – Heb. 5:12. • Unless we determine to make it so. • In the physical realm we can’t “decide” to grow. Spiritually, we can and must. • So, this year…

  3. Attendance • For self, and the church – Be Here. • Analyze Heb. 10:24-25 • Suggestion or commandment? • It isn’t just to make the preacher feel good or look good. • A family reunion. • Come, and bring others.

  4. Contribution • How much should YOU give? How much do you give? • Dollars won’t get you into heaven. Dishonoring God will keep you out. • I Cor. 16:1-2; 2 Cor. 8:1-15; 9:6-11 • The good it can do – Tom. And others. • Benevolence.

  5. Knowledge • Hosea 4:6; 2 Peter 1:3-4 • Memorizing verses won’t save us, but knowing God will. How can we know Him w/o knowing what He said. • How many can you quote? • We never stop growing. Body produces 3 million new cells/minute. • But we let our brain “coast”.

  6. Action • “Observe what Paul did at Athens. He did something. He was not the man to stand still and “confer with flesh and blood” in the face of a city full of idols. He might have reasoned with himself that he stood alone, that he was a Jew by birth; that he was a stranger in a strange land; that he had to oppose the rooted prejudices and old associations of learned men; that to attack the old religion of a whole city was to beard a lion in his den; that the doctrine of the Gospel was little likely to be effective on minds steeped in Greek philosophy.

  7. But none of these thoughts seem to have crossed the mind of Paul. He saw souls perishing; he felt that life was short, and time passing away; he had confidence in the power of his Master’s message to meet every man’s soul; he had received mercy himself, and knew not how to hold his peace. He acted at once, and what his hand found to do he did with all his might. Oh, that we had more men of action in these days.” (John Ryle)
