  2. 2011-2012 SCHEDULING SCHEDULING PROCESS: • PRE-SCHEDULING IS NEEDED TO DETERMINE STUDENT INTEREST IN CLASS OFFERINGS. • THE MASTER SCHEDULE IS BUILT WITH STUDENT INPUT. • STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE SCHEDULES THAT CAN THEN BE ADJUSTED IF NEEDED BEFORE THE START OF THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

  4. PACKET INFORMATION • GRADUATION HONORS POLICY • SENIOR PROJECT REVIEW BOARD REQUEST – 10th-11th Grade • RESOURCE SHEET – FCA WEBSITE • POST SECONDARY INFORMATION – GRADES 10 AND 11 FOR STUDENTS WITH 3.00 GPA AND ABOVE

  5. 2011-2012 SCHEDULING • English Classes will continue to be designated as Honors English 11, Honors English 12, College Prep English 11 and College Prep English 12. • Government will be offered as a full year course with the State of Ohio requirements for Economics included within the course. • Rosetta Stone Language Lab will continue to be an option for students.

  6. 2011-2012 SCHEDULING • Possible implementation of Switched-On online courses for additional elective and AP course opportunities for students. • Bible classes will continue in the high school on a quarterly basis.  • Credit for all semester and full year courses will be awarded by semester on the transcript. • Graduation Honors – Cum Laude System

  7. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS • Class of 2011-2013 Graduation Requirements – 10th-11th Grade • Class of 2014 and beyond Graduation Requirements - 9th Grade • Honors Diploma 2011 and Beyond Requirements – 9th- 11th • Check list sheet has both the Diploma and the Honors Diploma tracking side

COLLEGE RECOMMENDATIONS • TAKE AS DEMANDING AND VARIED A COURSE LOAD AS THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO HANDLE. • ACT/SAT SCORES AND GPA ARE VERY IMPORTANT FOR SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITES • ACT/SAT SCORES GO UP WHEN A STUDENT TAKES MORE CHALLENGING CLASSES • COLLEGES DO NOT WANT SENIORS TO “SLACK”OFF – WANT TO SEE A STRONG TRANSCRIPT

COLLEGE RECOMMENDATIONS • JUNIORS NEED TO HAVE TAKEN THE ACT AT LEAST ONCE BEFORE THE END OF THIS YEAR – APRIL AND JUNE DATES ARE STILL AVAILABLE • JUNIORS SHOULD BE VISITING COLLEGES AND ASKING FOR THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS ABOUT SENIOR YEAR COURSE WORK - FOR ACCEPTANCE AND PROGRAM PREPARATION – NOT ALL COLLEGES ARE THE SAME! • SOPHOMORES – OGT TESTING IN MARCH – PRACTICE INFORMATION ON THE FCA WEBSITE

MATH • MINIMUM COLLEGE PREP IS ALGEBRA I, ALGEBRA II AND GEOMETRY • STUDENTS ARE RECOMMENDED TO TAKE MATH EVERY YEAR AS STUDENTS CAN GET “RUSTY” • CP-ALGEBRA REVIEW AND THE ACT/SAT PREP COURSE HELP WITH ACT/SAT TEST SCORES. • CHECK COLLEGE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MATH AND ALSO SEEK GUIDANCE FROM PRESENT MATH TEACHER

  12. SCIENCE • COLLEGE MINIMUM – PHYSICAL SCIENCE, BIOLOGY AND CHEMISTRY • STRONGLY RECOMMEND PHYSICS • CHECK COLLEGE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SCIENCE AND ALSO SEEK GUIDANCE FROM PRESENT SCIENCE TEACHER

  13. SOCIAL STUDIES • COLLEGE PREP MINIMUM – WORLD HISTORY, US HISTORY AND GOVERNMENT • GOVERNMENT IS NOW A FULL YEAR – INCLUSION OF ECONOMICS AS REQUIRED BY THE STATE OF OHIO

SOCIAL STUDIES • SOCIAL STUDIES ELECTIVES: • HOLOCAUST - 1 semester course • WESTERN CIVILIATION – 1 semester course can be taken for HS credit or dual credit • PSYCHOLOGY – 1 semester course – dual credit • SOCIOLOGY - – 1 semester course – dual credit • ON-LINE ELECTIVES – Additional social studies courses

  15. FOREIGN LANGUAGE • College Recommendation - minimum of 2 credits in one Foreign Language – with 3-4 strongly encouraged • Rosetta Stone Language lab – see FCA course descriptions on website for language options

  19. PHYS ED/HEALTH PE requirement - .50 Health requirement - .50 • Phys Ed class • Personal Fitness • PE Ed Option • Health – class, online and summer opportunity

Physical Education EDUCATIONAL OPTION ¼ credit toward graduation – 60 hour minimum – Approved school or alternate physical education program. ½ credit toward graduation – 120 hour minimum – Approved school or alternate physical education program. Application must be filed which includes the setting of goals and verification signatures from coach or supervising agent. Student can also take PE in their home public district and transfer it to FCA.

SENIOR PROJECT Talent Knight Showcase Friday, March 4th at 6:30 PM Worship Center - $2.00 at the door Proceeds to benefit the senior class mission trip to Costa Rica.  The Talent Knight Showcase is a collaborative Senior Project.  Come out and enjoy a night of talent and fun and help support the senior mission trip!

PSEO POTENTIAL RISKS AND CONSEQUENCES • THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL GET THE COURSE YOUR WANT OR THAT FUNDING WILL BE AVAILABLE TO PAY FOR THE COURSE • YOU MAY EXPERIENCE SOME SOCIAL DISCOMFORT WITH OLDER STUDENTS IF YOU ATTEND OFF FCA CAMPUS • IF YOU FAIL OR WITHDRAW FROM A COLLEGE COURSE IT MAY AFFECT THE CREDITS YOU NEED TO GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL • IF YOU FAIL OR WITHDRAW FROM A COURSE YOUR PARENTS MAY HAVE TO PAY THE COST OF THE COURSE

PSEO – OCU AT FCA 9 students are required to hold a class at FCA • 8 semester hours of classes are anticipated to be paid for by the State for seniors • 4 semester hours of classes are anticipated to be paid for by the State for juniors • All OCU classes are 3 semester hour courses except Photography which is 1 semester hour • Additional courses can be taken at a cost to the parent of $150.00 per semester hour

  36. WHAT DO I DO NOW? • READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL PARTS OF THE PSEO OVERVIEW • SEEK ADDITIONAL COUNSELING IF NEEDED FROM THE GUIDANCE OFFICE • SIGN THE PARENT/STUDENT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM AND SUBMIT TO THE GUIDANCE OFFICE BY MARCH 30TH
