  2. Design Activities • Lab 1: • Analyze external parts • Complete background research • Lab 2: • Measure noise and power source • Dissect and analyze • Customer Needs: • Survey • AHP and PCP charts • Final Design: • Morphological charts • Pugh charts

  3. Project Management • Our team did not really have one person that stood out as our leader. We worked as a group to make decisions together and split up our work. When we assigned people to projects such as concept generation we tried to do it in a way that people who had experience or had researched that topic developed those specific concepts.

  4. Customer Needs • A survey was created in order to better understand customer needs. This survey was given to 14 different people. Based upon the results of this survey an AHP chart was created of the customer needs.

Customer Needs (cont.) • After finishing the first chart, we were then able to make decision on which aspects were more important than others and then compared them again with different table with weighted values. • 1.   6. Revised Problem Statement • The chart provided us with a weighted value for each of the aspects and features to show us what the consumer wanted when buying a new toothbrush. • 1. Durability (0.319) • 2. Power Source (0.274) • 3. Different Speeds (0.129) • 4. Cost (0.034) • 5. Comfort (.035) • 6. Portability (.142) • 7. Timer (.063) • According to our surveys, the sustainability of an electric toothbrush was not a huge factor in the reason people don’t use electric toothbrushes. Customers were more concerned with the cost, grip, the ability to recharge, and noise of the toothbrush. We now work on creating a toothbrush that addresses these factors instead.

  11. Concept Generation Cont. • Rechargeable watch batteries- smaller than larger double AA’s • Rechargeable double A batteries with their own recharge station Simply use double A batteries, much simpler to implement, possibly cheaper, although less sustainable

Concept Generation Cont. • Rotating oscillating mechanism- A rotating oscillating brush head is achieved using a brass gear-pinion mechanism to slow down the rotation, a four-bar linkage to convert rotational motion to oscillation, and a 3-d ball joint changing the motion from moving up to the brush head to spinning with the brush • Rotating brush head
