  2. Victoria’s History • Victoria’s Aboriginal history and culture is an important part of the State’s cultural identity. Aboriginal people have occupied Victoria for thousands of years. • The capital of Victoria is Melbourne, it was founded by John Batman, 1835. • Word that gold had been discovered in Victoria in 1851 – Sovereign Hill, Ballarat. The news travelled across the world quickly. This period in Victoria’s history was known as ‘The Gold Rush’.

  3. Victoria’s Emblems Floral Emblem:Epacris impressa Victoria calls itself the 'Garden State’ Because of it’s stunning vistas of green grassy hills, valleys and gardens. Bird Emblem: Yellow Wattle Bird Animal Emblem: Leadbeater Possum

  4. THE GREAT SIGHTS OF VICTORIA One of Victoria’s famous tourist attractions is Puffing Billy. The Puffing Billy is in a narrow gauge heritage railway in the Dandenong Ranges .

It is situated in the North-West. Temperatures usually exceed 40 degrees in summer. • Victoria is one of Australia’s major manufacturing States. Its factories employ about 34 per cent of the national labour force.

  10. Victoria’s Main Airport • Melbourne Airport, aka Tullamarine Airport, is the main airport of Victoria. It is also the second busiest airport in Australia. It was opened in 1970 to replace the nearby Essendon Airport.
