  2. My Own Experience With the U.S. Navy as a World Sea Power • NJROTC – Dartmouth College – 1968-70 • USS EDSON (DD-946) – 1970-72 • First Lieutenant / First Division Officer • ASW Officer • Naval Support Force Antarctica – 1972-73 • Executive Officer, Winter-Over Detachment • Naval Academy Preparatory School – 1974-77 • Company 1 Officer, English Instructor

  3. My Destroyer USS EDSON (DD-946) • This is the EDSON underway. • The cropped version shows just the bridge area where I was stationed. • The background music is the Navy Hymn.

  4. Modern Destroyers • This is an ARLEIGH BURKE class guided missile destroyer. • You can see how much more up-to-date she is since my ship of 35 years ago. • Background Music: Life on the Ocean Wave, by H.M Band of the Royal Marines

  5. My favorite photo of EDSON underway Photo Credit: Phil Toy

  6. Submarine Performing an “Emergency Blow” This is a video clip from the U.S. Navy of a submarine doing an “emergency blow” to surface as rapidly as possible. There is no audio with this video.

  7. Now we will try to give you a sense of life at sea. This video was taken onboard my sailboat in June 2004 on the way to Bermuda……. Listen for the sound of the wind and the water

  8. That’s All, Folks! We’ll explore this topic further tomorrow. For today, just remember: “A Bad Day at Sea Beats a Good Day on Shore” G.H. Kain, 1970 Gulf of Tonkin off Viet Nam
