Genesis 12:1-5 “12 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. 4 So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. 5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.”

  3. Introduction Abraham was called the “Father of Faith.” When we consider his life, we will learn something about faith. He really possessed a genuine faith. But before we can see in his latter days, the faith he really displayed, let us consider his early life even from the time when God finally came to his life.

His Conversion Genesis 11:26-32 “26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran. 27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot. 28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees. 29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

His Conversion Genesis 11:26-32 30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child. 31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. 32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.”

  7. I. His Conversion • It was God’s choosing Salvation is of the Lord Jonah 2:9 “But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.”

His Conversion • It was God’s choosing • God chose us, and not we who first chose God John 15:16 “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”

  10. I. His Conversion • It was God’s choosing c. God gave us eternal life. John 3:27 “John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.” • Nothing was originated from us, all things that we have came from the Lord.

  11. I. His Conversion • It was God’s choosing Ephesians 2:8-9 “8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

  12. I. His Conversion 2. It was God’s timing II Corinthians 6:2 “(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)”

  13. I. His Conversion 2. It was God’s timing • Everything in this world was planned by God. • Nothing happens by just an accident. • They exist even in the fore knowledge of God. • So, our conversion was perfectly God’s appointed time.

It was God’s timing According to Hebrews 2:3 and 3:15-16.. “3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; 15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. 16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.”

It was God’s timing According to Hebrews 2:3 and 3:15-16.. • Today is the accepted time. • But for each one of us, there is an exactly appointed time for our salvation. • There are people you try to bring in the feet of Christ and yet even until now they don’t even manifest or even experience God’s salvation. Maybe because, God’s time for thim had never come yet to thim.

  17. II. His Calling • It was a calling of Separation • When a person knew God he needs to separate from the world, sin and etc. • Separation always follow after salvation. He was to leave Ur and his father’s house for a land that God would show him.

  18. II. His Calling • It was a calling of Separation • Separation from his country He was to leave his nation not because of that place alone, but because of what culture system is in that place.

  20. II. His Calling • It was a calling of Separation b. Separation from family ties • Wrong principles in life • Wrong perspective in life • Custom, culture system, manner • Lifestyle, standards, practice, faith

  21. II. His Calling • It was a calling of Separation b. Separation from family ties • In our days, we are not to separate literally from our families, but we need to be different and not to compromise to what they are doing, especially if it is against the Word of God.

  22. II. His Calling • It was a calling of Separation b. Separation from family ties • One of the hindrances in following Christ is “family ties.”They could not follow Christ because of their relatives.

Separation from family ties Matthew 10:34-37 “34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

  24. II. His Calling • It was a calling of Separation b. Separation from family ties Matthew 10:34-37 36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.”

Separation from family ties Luke 9:59-62 61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

  27. II. His Calling • It was a calling of Separation b. Separation from family ties • God came here not to bring peace but SWORD – which means or it symbolizes SEPARATION. • They could not easily follow Christ because of strong family ties.

  29. II. His Calling • It was a calling of Separation c. Separation to all that is within the will of God “UNTO A LAND THAT I WILL SHEW THEE” Two-fold Separation FROM – TO WRONG – RIGHT SIN – HOLINESS DISOBEDIENCE – OBEDIENCE

  30. II. His Calling • It was a calling of Separation c. Separation to all that is within the will of God • It is both negative and positive. It is separation from all that is outside the will of God to all that is within the will of God.

Hebrews 11:8-10, 14-16 “8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Separation to all that is within the will of God 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”

Separation to all that is within the will of God • We don’t separate from the world and from all its sin for nothing, God commanded us to separate from all that is outside the will of God because He has a better plan for us. He knows what is best for us.

Separation to all that is within the will of God • He is going to give us a better country, that is Heaven. • This world is not our home, we’re just passing through. • God wants the better things for us. • Don’t hesitate to obey God, you are in God’s hands.

  35. II. His Calling 2. It was a calling to God’s blessing “AND I WILL BLESS THEE” • It is clear here that God is the One Who will bless us because He alone is the source of all blessings. • God never calls men to curse them, but to bless them. He wants us to be blessed.

John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

His Compliance • Partial and Reluctant at first Genesis 11:31 “And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.” • He came out but with his relatives. At first, he did not obey God completely.

He allowed Terah to initiate to be the leader • He followed God fully when his father died at Haran Genesis 11:32 “And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.” • God will take away from us all the things that hinder us for us to follow God completely.

He brought Lot with him (one of the factor of his partial obedience) • God wants us to obey Him immediately and completely, so if we are not fully obeying God, let’s ask God to forgive us and be determined to follow Him 100%, in every aspect of our lives.

By faith Hebrews 11:8 “By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.” • One’s faith is being tested by obeying what God is telling a person to do everything he could not understand or he does not know how to do or where to go.

  43. III. His Compliance 2. By faith • He knew God personally Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

  44. III. His Compliance 2. By faith • He knew God personally • He was sure that it was really God who called him. • We can fully follow God when we fully know who God really is. • Because the measurement of our obedience is our knowledge about God.

  45. III. His Compliance 2. By faith • He knew God personally • He had deep relationship with God and believe His Word. • If you know God, it is easy for you to believe God’s Word. • We can’t obey God when we are short of knowing Him. He was convicted to follow God’s Word.

  46. III. His Compliance 2. By faith • He knew God personally • How much do you know God? “GOD KNOWS YOU, THEREFORE YOU MUST KNOW YOUR GOD.”

  47. III. His Compliance 2. By faith b. It was by faith, because “he went out not knowing whither he went.” • It is not easy to go if you do not know where to go. • Abraham had a complete trust in God that He will guide him all throughout his journey.

  48. III. His Compliance 2. By faith b. It was by faith, because “he went out not knowing whither he went.” • When we trust God that He is capable of leading us, it is easy to obey Him. • God is not just able, but also willing to guide us.

  49. III. His Compliance 2. By faith c. It was by faith because he look for a city that was very real to him. Hebrews 11:1, 10 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”

  50. III. His Compliance 2. By faith c. It was by faith because he look for a city that was very real to him. • We must have a genuine faith to see the unseen and invisible things or even the things God prepared for us in the future. • Faith is looking for the things that we have not seen yet.
