  1. Make your display as attractive as possible. An eye-catching display can even sell caps without your help! For best results, station your display where the caps can be easily seen and, best of all, handled. Letting your customer see and feel the merchandise can be a strong selling point.

  2. Diversify your samples. Variety will foster creativity; the customer who sees an assortment of styles, colors and cap embroidery is more likely to find the ideal combination among your samples. Better yet, the customer may see something even fancier (and more expensive) than originally desired and decide to upgrade the order. One hint: be sure to display head wear from several manufacturers to reflect a range of style, workmanship and price.

  3. Update your stock constantly. That which is new and different will always attract attention. By stocking up on the latest caps, you're telling your customer you know what is current and hot-that may be just what fits the bill.

  4. Show a medium-priced or higher-quality cap first. If you start low, there's nowhere for your customer to go but out the door. If the cap you start with is too overpowering in design or price, then select a more common cap.

  5. Keep in touch with your customer. If the caps were purchased six months ago, make sure the customer is still satisfied with them. Check also to see if it's time to re-order. On the other hand, if the ordered items were sweatshirts, ask if caps would be a good option for the next time.
