  1. Chapter 18 • Per the usual, we will be discussing this chapter during and after reading, BUT something will be different. • Today, YOU will be creating discussion questions! • Keep in mind, these will not QUZ questions (right/wrong), nor will they be YES/NO/EITHER/OR questions. • They should be questions that promote discussion and are open to multiple opinions. • See the next slide for possible question starters.

  2. Ask a question • *Why did . . . • *Who is . . . • *What would happen if . . . • *Do you think . . . • *I don’t get this part here . . . These will be written on a ½ sheet of paper (share with a neighbor). Don’t forget your name!

  3. Chapter 18: student generated questions • The questions you will discuss in your small group today were created—or at least inspired by your peers. • You will have 2-3 minutes to brainstorm your ideas for each question. Since your grade today will be based on your teacher’s OBSERVATIONS of your discussion behaviors, you may brainstorm in whatever app you would like. • And remember, since this is discussion prep AND practice for our next graded Socratic Seminar, BULLET POINTS are just fine.

  4. Chapter 18: student generated questions • Why do you think the creators of The Blind Side movie chose to change the details of Michael’s life, especially considering his childhood was so difficult and dramatic in the first place? (Hannah F., Sabrina K., Cali F., 1st Hour) • Taking that question a step further, do you think the movie would still be as good if they included his REAL story, and not just the Hollywood version? Explain. (Steven L., 3rd Hour) • How do you think Michael’s life would be different if he had never met the Tuohys? What might he have done with his life instead? (Carter J., 1st Hour)

  5. Chapter 19 • Today, you will be reading several letters that Michael has received over the years. • Consider which one that you think is the most memorable and/or stands out the most to you. • Using at least 75 words, explain your choice. • This should go in your Tri 3 Google Doc with today’s date (you can easily check the date!). • Be prepared to explain which letter it is, as well as WHY it stands out to you.
