  1. The Abrahamic Covenant What is our part?

  2. What is it the Abrahamic Covenant? • When Abraham was baptized, he was given many promises. Among them are: • He was given the Priesthood. • He was promised eternal increase. • The was promised that these blessings would be given to his posterity. • When someone gets baptized into the church, they become an heir to the Abrahamic covenant. • 1 Nephi 15:18 “Wherefore, our father hath not spoken of our seed alone, but also of all the house of Israel, pointing to the covenant which should be fulfilled in the latter days; which covenant the Lord made to our father Abraham saying; In thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.” • The Abrahamic Covenant is to be fulfilled in the latter days; our day!

  3. Our Promises to Him • When someone gets baptized into the church, they become an heir to the Abrahamic covenant. • As a part of that covenant, they are given the responsibility to carry the gospel to all peoples of the earth. (BD) • We share the Lord’s blessing with all His children. • 2 Nephi 25:26 “And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, the our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.” • This is what we promised our Heavenly King.

  4. What do these blessings allow us to do? • Come to know Christ; His life, teachings, use the atonement productively and become perfect. • Make our weaknesses become strengths by using our agency to change ourselves in righteousness. • Make and keep covenants that empower us; renewing these covenants can make the difference in facing the challenges of this life and preparing for the next. • Live so we depend on promtings of the spirit; the gift of the Holy Ghost will give each individual a rewarding life that connects God’s will with our challenges. • Receive all the Father has and be exalted in the Celestial Kingdom.

  5. How can we overcome the world? • The world seeks to distract us from our duty through so many means. We can use our agency to overcome the world by: • Expanding our vision of the unique duty and opportunity of being Israel • Connecting what we do today with our goals for the future • Overcome selfishness and come to love God and our fellowmen. • “My dear brothers and sisters, ours is the responsibility, even the solemn duty to reach out to all of those whose lives we have been called to touch. Our duty is to guide them to the celestial kingdom of God. May we ever remember that the mantle of leadership is not the cloak of comfort but rather the robe of responsibility. May we reach out to rescue those who need our help and our love.” (Thomas S. Monson. “Sugar Beets and the Worth of a Soul.” Ensign July 2009, 2-5.)
