  1. The Abrahamic CovenantHow does it relate to us?

  2. What is the Abrahamic Covenant? • When Abraham was baptized, he was given many promises. Among them are: • He was given the Priesthood. • He was promised eternal increase. • The was promised that these blessings would be given to his posterity. • When someone gets baptized into the church, they become an heir to the Abrahamic covenant. • As a part of that covenant, they are given the responsibility to carry the gospel to all peoples of the earth. (BD)

  3. Now, a Story…The Kings Children • Once there was a kingdom with many people. Unfortunately, there was much poverty and hardship. • The king selected five people who were to be educated, well fed, and treated special. • The king told these people that he loved them and wanted them to build up his kingdom again and help those in poverty. • Anna worked hard for years to learn languages. She died in old age-happy, alone, and able to say goodbye in 8 languages.

  4. Kings Children cont... • Sophie quickly forgot her humble beginnings. She used the king’s help to party. Her death signaled the end of life to a woman devoted to fun, entertainment, and self-gratification. • Stephen studied the principles of finance. Over the years, be became wealthy and kept adding to his reserves. When he died, he had enough money to live for another 100 years.

  5. Kings children cont... • Nicholas and Arrabelle never forgot what had been done for them. They remembered the reason they were so blessed was to bless others. Their life was a joyful effort to help others. The gifts they were given allowed them to do things they never would have thought in poverty.

  6. What is the relationship? • The King in the story can be related to our Heavenly Father. • Those of the covenant are the children the King gave gifts to. • When given those gifts, or the gift of the covenant, we promised we would use them to share the gospel and live God’s commandments. We promised they would be used to help others. • Those children who used their gifts for themselves had it only until death; they could not enjoy it in the next life; their unused gifts caused the people to think the king unfair and unkind. • How does the story end for the others?

  7. The goodness of the king • For Nicholas and Arrabelle, they kept their promise to the king. When they used their gifts to help others, the people rejoiced in the goodness of the king. • 2 Nephi 25:26 “And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, the our childrenmay know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.” • This is what we promised our Heavenly King.
