  3. Objectives • To provide and promote project-wide meetings… • To provide a forum for discussion and resolution of networking and technical issues… • To discuss, critically review and develop results and ideas from SA1, SA2, JRA1 • Provide input to EXPReS outreach team

Status of Global Connectivity Europe • Dedicated 1Gbps circuits in place from: • Westerbork • Jodrell Bank • Cambridge • Medicina • Torun • Expected soon: • Yebes (Madrid) • Effelsberg?? • Ventspils?? • Onsala?? China • Shanghai achieved 512Mbps in UDP tests to JIVE: fringes at 256 Mbps Australia • Achieved 512Mbps to JIVE as part of the APAN demo Chile • Tigo hoping for 128Mbps to Europe by May 2008

  5. Connectivity (continued) USA • Aricibo (64Mbps achieved) –future plans? Japan • Mizusawa VERA has achieved 300Mbps to EU –more? FABRIC • 4Gbps from London to Stockholm • Hoping for Jodrell-Onsala soon

  6. Update: APAN Demo • APAN Meeting in Xi’an, China • Demo connecting Shanghai to JIVE • Utilising the new ORIENT circuit • Highly successful -256Mbps fringes achieved • Press release well received

Update: EVN-NREN • EVN-NREN Meeting in Bonn • Good attendance with new faces (24 total) • 8 network organisations represented • DANTE, DFN, SURFnet, RedIRIS, AARNET, Internet2, JANET, NORDUnet • Update on GÉANT2 and global connectivity • Now connecting ZA (1Gbps) and CN (2.5Gbps) • New tools –monitoring • Multi-domain NOC (E2ECU) • EXPReS Update • UDP • 10Gbps connectivity requirements

Update: EVN-NREN II • Round table discussion • Haystack needs 2-4Gbps to EU • Yebes is still implementing last mile (early 2008) • Au telescopes will continue to connect via US • Effelsberg –digging last mile • Japan achieved 300Mbps to EU • Presentations on: • TCP and UDP for eVLBI (PB) • JB-eMerlin work (RS) • UDP throughput tests (RH-J) • Internet2 monitoring tools (RC)
