  2. Introduction Dear class, We at the Local Newspaper have heard about how terrific of news reporters you have become. Your teacher informed the newspaper about your understanding of answering the five W’s and H question when it comes to reporting. We are going to hire your class for a special edition. Since March is Women’s history month, we would like you to create a newspaper highlighting women who have made great contributions to American society. Thank you, The Local Newspaper

  3. Task • Your group will work cooperatively to research one woman who has made a difference in American society. • You will need to answer: Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How. It is important that you explain what this wonderful woman achieved and how she did it. • Each group will: Visit the websites for their selected American woman, write a 1-2 page newspaper section about this woman (the section can include an imaginative interview, letter from the editor, breaking news, pictures, and it must include a section on biographical information). The group will present to the class their section of the newspaper and what they have learned about this particular individual.

  4. Process 1. The group will select one famous woman to research. 2. Work together to gather information from the websites provided. Use the media center to take out books. 3 Using the information you gathered brainstorm ideas for your groups section of the special edition newspaper. 4. Each group member will then write an article related to the American woman your group has learned about. 5. During computer time the group will create a section of the newspaper for this woman. 6. Groups will share their section of the newspaper with the rest of the class. Remember to be creative and stay on task!

Evaluation • Your group’s evaluation will be evaluated using the following grading: - American Women Rubric (28 points) - Newspaper section (20 points) - Group presentation of newspaper (12 points) • Make sure that all group members participate in learning about your famous woman in American history. Put your best effort and hard work into it. • You want to be proud of your work. Your group has the important responsibility of teaching the class and readers about the American women you have spent so much time learning about.

  14. Conclusion Congratulations reporters! You have completed your web quest. The class has put together a wonderful special edition newspaper. It provides excellent information about women who have made a difference in America. The newspaper readers are going to learn a lot from your research. Great Job!
