Outreach Efforts • The UST Inspections and Compliance Unit provides approximately 180 compliance assistance site visits per year. • These visits allow one-on-one instruction between inspectors and facility owners and/or operators allowing the focus to be on the specific application of state and federal regulations to specific processes at the facility. • Compliance assistance site visits serve two functions: • They allow facilities which are in compliance to remain in compliance or to achieve compliance above regulatory minimums. • They allow facilities which are not in compliance to return to compliance quickly, accurately, and confidently which leads to sustained long term compliance.

Outreach Efforts • The UST Inspections and Compliance Unit provides regulatory presentations. • On average the Unit will provide five or more presentations annually covering various regulatory topics with audiences ranging from UST owners and operators, to delegated authorities, to the US EPA. • These presentations allow the dissemination of information on new and emerging topics and legislative developments.

  5. Outreach Efforts • The UST Inspections and Compliance Unit receives and responds to questions via telephone, mail, and e-mail from regulated entities and the general public on a daily basis. • While the number of calls and assistance of this type is not tracked (due to the volume of calls and the loss of legitimate productivity that would result from the time spent tracking) in general, the Unit receives and responds to well in excess of five requests per day. • Five requests per day over one year equals 1,300 individual instances of this type of compliance assistance.

Outreach Efforts • The UST Inspections and Compliance Unit develops brochures and fact sheets. • Automatic Tank Gauging • Cathodic Protection • Groundwater Monitoring • Interstitial Monitoring • Spill and Overfill Prevention • Tank Tightness Testing • Temporary and Permanent Closure • Vapor Monitoring • Operator Training Guidance • UST owner and operator compatibility checklist (in development)
