  17. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lemasabachthani?" "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?". When Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. Matthew 27.45-50

  18. At that very moment… The temple curtain was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks were split apart. Matthew 27.51

  19. At that very same moment… Jesus… destroyed him who holds the power of DEATH – that is, the devil – and freed those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of DEATH. Heb 2.14

  20. Jesus’ body was wrapped in linen and laid in a tomb. And everyone went home.

  21. No one was ready for what happened next – early on the morning of the first day of the week. No one.

  22. No one expected Jesus to come back from the dead.

  23. No one expected Jesus to come back from the dead. No one expected Jesus to come back from the dead.

  24. Disciples despaired. God waited.

  25. Total darkness. Dead silence. God made His move.

  29. Did Jesus miss a great opportunity?

  30. Jesus Perfect Personal Strategy • He reveals Himself one-by-one… • To Mary – the Devoted one • To Cleopas – the Dejected one • To Peter – the Decisiveone • To Thomas – theDoubtful one • To John – the Detached one Which one do YOU identify with?

  31. Mary Magdalene – the Devoted One Now very early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been moved away from the entrance.

  32. So she went running to Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” Later… Mary stood outside the tomb weeping. As she wept, she bent down and looked into the tomb. And she saw two angels in white sitting where Jesus’ body had been lying, one at the head and one at the feet.

  33. They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” Mary replied, “They have taken my Lord away, and I do not know where they have put him!” When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus.

  34. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?” Because she thought he was the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will take him.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni” (which means Teacher).

  35. Jesus replied, “Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to my Father. Go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene came and informed the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them what Jesus had said to her.

  36. Cleopas & friend – the Dejected Ones Now that very day two of them were on their way to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking to each other about all the things that had happened.

  37. While they were talking and debating these things, Jesus himself approached and began to accompany them (but their eyes were kept from recognizing him).

  38. Then he said to them, “What are these matters you are discussing so intently as you walk along?” And they stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who doesn’t know the things that have happened there in these days?” He said to them, “What things?”

  39. “The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene,” they replied…“a man who, with his powerful deeds and words, proved to be a prophet before God and all the people; and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over to be condemned to death, and crucified him. But WE HAD HOPED that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel.

  40. Not only this, but it is now the third day since these things happened. Furthermore, some women of our group amazed us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find his body, they came back and said they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive.
