  2. The Dorchester County Economic Development Department was established in 1989, and is dedicated to - • Recruiting new business • Growing existing industry • Workforce Development • Improving the Dorchester County business climate • We do this by: • Targeting and recruiting key employment opportunities in the Automotive, Aviation/Aerospace & Government Contracting, Bioscience, Marine and Distribution clusters. • And it’s working. According to recently released 2010 Census Data, Dorchester County was the fastest-growing of all South Carolina's 46 counties during the last decade.

  3. Getting Started >>Conducted an existing industry survey >>Survey revealed emerging trends and underlying challenges >>As a result of the survey, an Industrial Workforce Profile was compiled based on input provided by 45 different companies through various interviews.

  4. Participating Industries >>Industry sizes from among the Profile participants ranged from one employee to 1,713 employees, operating in a variety of manufacturing and industrial applications that included the following sectors: >Aerospace >Automotive > BioScience > Composites > Construction > Distribution > Machining > Marine > Recycling

  5. Workforce Barrier Work Ethic >> Dorchester County Industries were asked to comment on those issues most concerning to them. >> The decline of work ethic was identified from this Profile as one of the most significant problems among employers. >> This decline is more prevalent among the 18-30 age group. >> As a potential solution, the Profile recommended a work ethic training program be introduced at the high school level.

  6. 2012 Strategic Plan >>Work ethic was also identified as a challenge area in the 2012 Economic Development Strategic Plan. >>Consultants Sanford Holshouser and Applied Marketing recommended adopting a work ethic certificate training program, recognized by employers, for high school students entering the workforce.

  7. Student Work Ethic Performance Standards >>Attendance (Punctuality) >> Character >> Teamwork >> Appearance (Netiquette) >> Attitude (Critical Thinking) >> Productivity >> Organizational Skills >> Communication >> Cooperation >> Respect
