  3. credits? • 20 credits (10 + 10): regular course, (720 hours= 20 weeks) • 1point= 36 hours (one working week) • Individual

  4. ”General Economics” • 160 credits - 8 terms: 20 credits each (10 + 10) - 8 terms= 8 courses

  5. Master’s degree in General Economics, 160 credits: • Business Studies A (20 credits) • Political Economics (20 credits) • Courses in total 80 credits (4 terms) in any of the main directions: economic history, business studies, trade, political economics or statistics,( incl. Degree project 20 credits) • Optional subjects ( 40 credits): f.example languages, psycology, sociology, theatre (!) • Bologna process- change into 180 credits

Master’s degree in International Economics, 180 credits • Business Studies A (20 credits) • Political Economics (20 credits) • Courses in total 80 credits (4 terms) in any of the main subjects: economic history, business studies, trade, political economics or statistics,( incl. Degree project 20 credits) • Languages (50 credits) • Optional subjects (10 credits): f.example languages, psycology, sociology, theatre (!)

Bachelor’s degree, 120 credits • Business Studies A (20 credits) • Political economics (20 credits) • Courses in total 60 credits (3 terms) in any of the main subjects: economic history, business studies, trade, political economics or statistics,(incl. Degree project 20 credits) • Optional subjects (20 credits): f.example languages, psycology, sociology, theatre (!)

  8. Study abroad? • A term abroad (20 credits) is possible, during different terms depending on the main subject • 26 different countries (Spain, USA, Australia, UK) • Moscow International Higher Business School- (4 students)

  9. The Bologna process • Each program divided into: 2 levels (3 years Bachelor + 2 years Masters’) • 20 credits in Sweden= 20 credits in Schweiz, student mobility • International teaching • Similar content of courses

  10. Teaching, General Economics • Varies from course to course • Example: Political economics (20 credits:10 + 10= 1 term, 20 weeks) - Lectures: 148 hours 1 teacher for 300 students - Seminars: 10 hours, 1 teacher per group (20 students) - Consultation: 10 hours - Time for own studies: 480 hours

Methods • Director of studies- Dr. Sven Åke Carlsson • Lectures: course literature – 200 pages/ point, overheads (on internet), blackboard • Seminars: groupwork- 4 members/ group, writing and presenting project, discuss in class • Homework: ”20 hours- working week” • Exam: 2 exams, 1 for each part

  13. Exams • Political economics example (20 credits): • 18 credits (9 + 9) = 2 written exams (10 questions) • 2 credits: seminars • IG, G, VG- if IG= rewrite • 480 hours of own studies- for exams & seminars

  14. Students • 4.4 people/ place • Course Political Economics: 300 students: 150 from ”Economics”,150 from other programmes • 19-25 years, middleage • From all over Sweden- 40 % Stockholmers, 20% Uppsala • ”Economics”: 150- 200 international students each year

  15. Life in Uppsala • Living: campus (3000 kronor) • CSN: loan  + subsidy  = 7000 kr • Work, ex. Nordea (2 times a week, 17:45- 21:00), University has sponsors

  16. Social activities • 1477 (Scandinavias oldest) • Tradition of studentlife: 13 Nations ex. Stockholms- social activities from proms to soccer games • Uppsala Economists: different projects, from modeshows to introduction weeks for new student • Student Radio, Student magazine,the best orchestra • Ekonomikum: different tradefairs- companies want to recruit, lectures (f.e. WE- Greger Hägelin)
