He is more suited for the leadership role. • Heir to the leadership of the tribe • She devotes herself to getting the younger son into position • Requires some deception • God’s divine purposes being accomplished in this

Rebekah and Jacob trick Esau out of his birthright • Father, Isaac, is old and can’t see • Rebekah helps Jacob deceive Isaac • Jacob puts a goatskin around his neck and wrists to feel hairy like Esau, Rebekah makes the stew • Isaac thinks it is Esau and gives Jacob his blessing and inheritance • Isaac finds out but can’t take back the blessing given • Esau vows to kill Jacob one day • Rebekah believes God’s will is in this and obeys even at great personal risk • Again, God uses imperfect people to get his work done
