  3. STATISTICS • On average, texting causes drivers to look away from the road for 4.6 seconds. At 55 mph, the vehicle travels the length of an entire football field while the driver isn’t looking. • Drivers who type or read text messages contribute to at least 100,000 crashes each year, leading to thousands of preventable deaths. • In 2009, 5,474 people were killed on U.S. roadways and an estimated additional 448,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes that were reported to have involved distracted driving. • Texting while driving increases your chance of a crash by up to 8 to 23 times. • http://lifebeforetext.com/Statistics.html

STATISTICS CONTINUED… • Talking on a cell phone causes nearly 25% of car accidents. • One-fifth of experienced adult drivers in the United States send text messages while driving. • In 2008 almost 6,000 people were killed and a half-million were injured in crashes related to driver distraction. • For every 6 seconds of drive time, a driver sending or receiving a text message spends 4.6 of those seconds with their eyes off the road.
