  2. C’est fermé = It’s closed (Fermer = to close) • C’est ouvert = It’s open • ‘ouvert’, ‘fermé’ are used as adjectives so they can take on ‘e’ and ‘s’

  3. Quelle heure est-il? – What time is it? • You can also use the question “Il est quelle heure” to ask for the time. • Answer the question with “Il est ….” Ex. Il est deux heures du matin.

  4. Il n’est pas midi moins le quart? – It’s not a quarter to 12 (is it)? This is a question that is asked negatively.

  5. Si – Yes (used in place of ‘Oui’ when replying positively to a negative question) • Il n’est pas midi moins le quart? It isn’t a quarter to 12, is it? → Si, il est midi moins le quart Yes, it is a quarter to 12. → Non, il n’est pas midi moins le quart No, it isn’t a quarter to 12.

  6. Le matin = (in) the morning • L’après-midi = (in) the afternoon • Le soir = (in) the evening • La nuit = (at) night

  7. De huit heures à midi moins le quart = from 8am to a quarter to 12

  8. Je suis en retard = I’m late • Être en retard = to be late • Être en avance = to be early • Être à l’heure = to be on time/punctual

  9. La classe commence = Class starts • Commencer à + verbe = to start to do sthg Elle commence à manger. • Finir de + verbe = to finish doing sthg Elle finit de manger.

  10. à une heure et demie = at 1.30pm • à quatre heures et demie = at 4.30pm
