  1. Optical Access OptiSwitch Enterprise solutions

  2. Introduction • OptiSwitch introduction • Chassis range • Module range • Software Features • Applications

  3. OptiSwitch The OptiSwitch is an all-modular switching/routing platform, scalable from 10Base interfaces to Gigabit speed, ASP ready connections.

  4. Naming conventions OptiSwitch XX00 { Number of Slots OptiSwitch 800 = 8 slots OptiSwitch 2400 = 24 slots

  5. Backbone systems • OptiSwitch 2400 • Layer 2 – 3 switching platform • Upgradeable to full routing • Redundancy options • Up to 24 Gigabit interfaces or 192 10/100 or Fiber optic interfaces per chassis

  6. Backbone systems • OptiSwitch 1200 • Layer 2 – 3 switching • Upgradeable to full routing • Up to 12 Gigabit interfaces or 96 10/100 or FO interfaces

  7. Backbone Systems • Linux based Routing card • Performs Routing Protocols • Forwarding Tables in the GE cards • Redundant routing card option in the OS2400

  8. Workgroup Switches • 8 slots for up to 8 GE or 64 10/100 or FO • 4 slots for up to 4 GE or 32 10/100 or FO • 2 slots for up 2 GE or 16 10/100 or FO

  9. OptiSwitch modules • 10Base-FL • 4 or 8 10/100Base-Tx • 2, 4 or 8 100Base-Fx Multimode and Singlemode • 1000Base Copper, Multimode or Singlemode • Hybrid combinations: 4TP+1 or 2 FO

  10. Routing Module • Modular routing controller module • Optional redundancy between routing controllers • Performs the routing algorithms • Communicates with the Hardware that performs the forwarding

  11. Linux OS • Implementation of Linux OS • Red Hat Kernel • Support for routing protocols • Zebra router • Apache web server • High Code stability

  12. Routing Features • Protocols are performed in the Routing module • Routing information is downloaded to the routing tables in the ASICs • Supports: • RIP I + II • OSPF • VRRP

  13. GMX module • Gigabit Ethernet over Multimode is limited to 550 meters • GMX module provides Gigabit connection for 2Km • Ideal for upgrade of FDDI to Gigabit on the same Multimode rings Exclusive to Optical Access

  14. Software Features • Full Management • In-Band, Out of band management • Full SNMP support • TELNET • Advanced VLAN engine • Management Encryption options • RMON Port mirroring Port trunking Flow control BootP Traffic Priority 802.1p/q taging IGMP

  15. OptiSwitch Benefits • Scalability – grow as you go • Flexibility – mix and match interfaces • Uniformity – All modules fit into all chassis • Simplicity – All Ethernet and IP, management with SNMP

  16. Enterprise Application OptiSwitch1200 Router Gigabit Ethernet OptiSwitch 800 Floor 1 Floor 2 Floor 3 Servers

  17. Enterprise Application • Full redundancy • Non-blocking • Gigabit Backbone • 10/100 to desktop

  18. ASP Ready • ASP – Application Service Provider • Out-sourcing IT functionality • Web servers, Email Servers • Data bases, ERP, sales forecasting and management • Network Servers • Better service, updated software, top level support • Cost saving on personal, licenses, maintenances, upgrades • Cost saving on miss-use of IT resources by employees

  19. OptiSwitch benefitss • End-to-end dedicated Virtual Ethernet Circuit per service with fixed parameters: • L2 Security based performed in hardware • Assured class of service • Fixed allowed bandwidth per service • Per Service/user/IP/Physical location management • LAN technology (Ethernet/IP and SNMP, no ATM)

  20. IP Options Floor 1 Floor 2 Floor 3 Servers • Different IP subnet per port • Different security parameters per port • Virtual Direct connection to router “Marketing” Subnet “Finance” Secured Subnet “IT” Secured Subnet “Servers” Secured Subnet

  21. Service aware switch LAN only (no Internet) LAN, remote LAN, Email LAN Switch LAN, ERP, 256K Internet, Email OptiSwitch 800 High-speed, High CoS, 10Mbps Internet

  22. ASP Application LAN only (no Internet) LAN, remote LAN, Email LAN Switch LAN, ERP, 256K Internet, Email OptiSwitch 800 High-speed, High CoS, 10Mbps Internet Carrier
