  2. Setting/The Society • The Society is a very precise system. When you turn 17, you are matched. This means that the officials find who best suits you for a spouse. The Society also choses 100 of everything to keep, including songs, stories, math lessons, etc., and gets rid of the rest. Technology is everywhere and nobody writes or creates. • Towards the end, the book takes you to the outer provinces, where the Society doesn’t exist.

  3. Plot • Cassia Reyes thinks that her life is perfect when she is matched with her best friend, XanderCarrow. While reviewing Xander’s micro card, another familiar face comes up. The face of Ky Markham, Cassia’s other good friend. Once she gets that settled with her official, she falls in love with Ky while hiking. The Matched Trilogy is about Cassia’s love for Ky, secret poems shared by the two of them, and their escape from the Society.

  4. Cassia Reyes • Cassia is the main character. She always believed in the Society. She lives in Oria province. After she is matched with XanderCarrow, she falls in love with Ky Markham during her leisure activity, hiking. She is particularly strong in sorting. She has a brother, Bram. Later on, she discovers that she wants to run away from the Society with Ky somehow, in some way.

  5. XanderCarrow • Xander is Cassia’s original match. He lives in Oria province. He too always believed in the Society. He has a brother, Tannen. He loves playing games and he is very good at them too. He is in love with Cassia and even though she doesn’t love him that way, he has nothing against Ky.

  6. Ky Markham • Ky used to live in the Outer Provinces. He was moved to Oria. He is classified as an Aberration and because he is, he cannot be Matched. He loves playing games and is very good at them though he always forfeits them. He had a cousin, Mathew Markham but he was killed and Ky was brought to be raised by Mathew’s parents, Patrick and Aida Markham. He is in love with Cassia.

  7. Problem • The problem is that the Society is controlling and stealing everybody's lives. Cassia and Ky want to escape and they are in love with each other even though they are not allowed. Cassia is also confused to chose between Ky and Xander.

  8. Why I Think It’s Good • This book is very different from other books I have read. It’s very poetic yet it’s still a story. I love the way that it has included poetry and romance and adventure all in the same book • It’s completely made up yet it has a hint of metaphorical reality in it. The Society obviously doesn’t exist but there is places and times where your life will start to be controlled by other people and you have to fight and rebel against them. • Cassia’s feelings are so strong and descriptive it keeps you reading until the end. The love triangle is very interesting because you get to see where it takes the characters.
