A look at Case 1 • Erik Smith • August 2, 1993 at age 13 killed 4 year old Derrick Robie in New York • Strangled, dropped rocks on his head, undressed and sodomized with a tree limb • Convicted of 2nd degree murder and sentenced maximum term for juvenile murderers, minimum of 9 years to life in prison • Has apologized and said realized it was wrong • Denied parole 5 times since 2002 • Next eligible in April 2012

A look at Case 2 • Westside Middle School Massacre • 13-year-old Mitchell Johnson, and 11-year-old Andrew Golden • Drove van to school, pulled fire alarm • Shot from the woods on March 24, 1998 • Killed 5, 4 students and a teacher • Injured 10, 9 students and a teacher • Among youngest in America charged with murder • Arkansas law only held till 14 for murder • Confined until 21 due to federal gun charges • Johnson released August 11, 2005 and Golden released May 25, 2007
