RRSD Mission Promote the development and application of Robotic and Remote Systems to Hazardous Environments for the purpose of reducing hazardous exposure to individuals, reducing environmental hazards, and reducing the cost of performing work. This is accomplished by; • Holding Topical meetings • Publishing technical papers and communications • Forming professional & personal relationships among members • Cooperating with other professional groups

  9. RRSD Governance Planning • One year Tactical Plan was established in 2003 and is up-to-date for 2010. • Five year Strategic Plan was established in 2003 and is up-to-date for 2010-2015. • Succession planning is part of the Tactical Plan. • Two newsletters published each year.

RRSD Contributions to ANS • ANS Position Statements: • RRSD is not responsible for any statements. • Participation with other Professional Societies: • Nine Professional Societies Co-Sponsored RRSD/ESD Joint Topical Meeting in 2008. • Seven groups provided financial support at topical. • Society Leadership: • Jim Tulenko past ANS President – past RRSD chair, current RRSD officer • Non-Meeting Publications: • RadWaste magazine articles • Nuclear News articles - cover story in Feb 2006 issue and two other articles • Sponsored Sessions at ANS National Meetings

RRSD Services to Students 2008 Best Paper Student Support • RRSD supports travel to ANS Annual andWinter meetings (typically $500/year) • RRSD supports ANS Student Conference, including travel (typically $500/year) and awards for best “robotics” paper at Topical 1st $500, 2nd $250, 3rd $100 • RRSD annually grants thousands of dollars to junior high school, high school, and college groups for organized robotic competitions (Topical Meeting contests, FIRST Competition, Lego League) 2010 - $6,000 2009 - $2,500 2008 - $6,000

RRSD SummaryFuture Focus Areas • Reverse the slow erosion in membership by taking advantage of the increased interest in remote robotics that will be generated by the Nuclear Renaissance • Increase awareness of Remote Robotics with newsletter, Publications and possibly paid ads to support ANS President’s “Get the Word Out” • Increase 2011 Topical content and attendance • Continue support for the student conference, student awards and student travel to the national meetings. • Continue to support the national ANS initiative to revitalize utility involvement in the ANS. • Evaluate appropriate uses for RRSD funds.
