Division/TG Mission • The Young Members Group works to encourage and enable all young professional members to be actively involved in the efforts and endeavors of the Society at all levels • sponsors non-technical workshops and meetings • collaborates with other Divisions and Groups in developing technical and non-technical content for topical and national meetings • encourages its members to participate in the activities of the Groups and Divisions that are closely related to their professional interests as well as in their local sections • introduces young members to the rules and governance structure of the Society • nominates young professionals for awards and leadership opportunities available to members.

Division/TG Contributions to ANS • Worked with ANS President to Identify Young Professional Members for Each Standing Committee • Recommended Young Members to Nominating Committee as Candidates for Board of Directors • Began Identifying Liaisons From YMG to Each Division Executive Committee • Developed working relationships with other professional organizations • North American Young Generation in Nuclear • Co-sponsored 2005 Young Professionals Congress • Planning 2007 Young Professionals Congress • International Youth Nuclear Congress • Supported technical program of IYNC2006 • Plan to support IYNC2008 as a Class IV meeting • American Society of Mechanical Engineers • Working to identify potential areas of collaboration between young members programs

Division/TG Services to Membership • Co-sponsored 2005 Young Professionals Congress as a professional development event for young members • Co-sponsor with ETD communications related events and sessions organized by the ANS PI Committee • Co-organizing 2006 Student Workshop with Student Sections Committee • Established Membership Committee to identify membership needs and develop informational materials • Collaborating with Membership Committee on revised mentoring program • Worked with NA-YGN to provide professional development content at the 2006 ANS Student Conference • Plan to support 2007 ANS Student Conference

Division/TG Meetings • National Meeting Participation • Organized first sponsored session at 2006 Winter Meeting • “Get Connected!” a session on networking skills co-organized by NA-YGN • Planning four sponsored sessions at 2007 Annual Meeting • Provide non-technical professional development content at National meetings • Focus on soft skills and life skills • Working with NPC to identify Young Members as Assistant Technical Program Chairs for future national meetings

Summary • Status of Division/TG Metrics and Measures • Sufficient data is not yet available for a full evaluation of YMG • Preliminary evaluation indicates all green or white except Succession Planning and Division Planning, which are yellow • Completion of Strategic Plan expected to result in all green or white Metrics and Measures for 2006 • List Areas of Success • Drafted and approved bylaws and rules • Held first election • Established Standing Committees • Finance, Program, Membership, Awards and Honors • Established Website and Newsletter • Sponsored first session at a National Meeting • Developed relationship with NA-YGN and IYNC • Focus for Future Action • Complete mew member welcome materials and recruiting plan • Improve retention of graduating student members • Improve retention of young members • Roll-out revised website with improved functionality • Organize 2nd Young Professionals Congress as a workshop in 2007 • Consider proposing 3rd Young Professionals Congress as an embedded topical in 2009 • Expand collaboration with divisions to involve young members in topical and national meetings • Expand collaboration with NA-YGN and participation in the activities of IYNC
