Columbia University Processes • Conflict of Interest – Annual Conflict of Interest Policy Regarding Education and Clinical Care for P&S Faculty needs to be filed annually using electronic system “RASCAL”. RASCAL is the electronic system used to prepare • Department of Medicine Policy for Electronic Documentation • Policy that governs the use of all Electronic Health Records and provides guidance on support tools such as “copy forward and copy and paste”. • Annual Billing Compliance • Annual online review and certification of Billing Compliance policies and procedures. Compliance is required and failure will result in lack of system access and Medicare access. • SOPs – Standard Operation Procedure – Sponsored Research • Quarterly review of financial status of sponsored research (grant accounts) by Principal Investigator. PI is required to sign off on the expenses charged year to date on project.

NYP Processes • Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) – 3 months after NYPH Appointment effective date • Physicians are reviewed on Quality Assurance and/or Mortality-Complication rate, Patient Complaints-compliments, resident evaluations. • Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) – Bi-annual • All Clinicians in each Service have to be reviewed and evaluated using the Services/Departments Clinical indicators.  If outside of the departments norms when reviewed the clinician/s are reviewed for an additional three months period (FPPE). • Reappointment – December – February (All new hires from 7/1/11 – 11/1/11 will have to reappoint) • Physicians have to reapply for NYPH appointment online.  All credentials are re-verified, privileges are renewed, CME’s need to be summarized.  Reappointments have to be approved by both the University and NYPH Medical Staff.

  4. NYP Processes • Annual Health – September - October Completing the AHR is a requirement of the New York State Public Health Law. There are two parts to completing an AHR: Filling out a health questionnaire and Medical surveillance testing (for most physicians, this will be a PPD) • Fit Testing  - September-October • As part of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s commitment to the safety of our patients and staff, and in support of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, medical staff who have direct patient contact must be fit tested for N95 masks each year.  • Influenza - October – November • NewYork-Presbyterian strongly encourage all CUMC faculty, staff and students to get the seasonal flu vaccination, and the H1N1 if necessary. Please protect yourself, your families, your colleagues and our patients by getting vaccinated. • Annual Hospital Training - October – November • This is an online training course which includes several training modules some mandatory to all and others dependant on your responsibilities and duties.  The content in these courses is intended to be a review of information you should already know.    Timely completion of the course is required not to incur a fine.   Non-completion is considered voluntary termination.
