  6. After our friends child exhibited reactions to foods and drinks containing RED DYE 40 and as a result of doing some checking, asking questions, and a few hours of research, we found this happens to many children and adults too! We felt the need to do more research and provide information that may help others deal with reactions to RED DYE 40 as well as other chemical additives in our foods. We are NOT doctors just concerned parents like you. Lesson objective – to understand what Food additives are (both good and bad)

  7. Dr. John Swartzberg at the UC Berkeley Wellness Letter says cochineal extract, also known as carmine, is in all sorts of things, including "fruit drinks, yogurts, ice creams, fruit filling, lots of other foods, cosmetics, like lipsticks and a lot of drugs."This bug dye doesn't sound very yummy, but it's considered safe by the Food and Drug Administration, except for a small group of people who have an allergic reaction to it. The Wellness Letter says in rare cases that reaction could be life-threatening. Lesson objective – to understand what Food additives are (both good and bad)
